"A player on the PS can sign with another team at any time just like a free agent."
Yes but ONLY to another teams 53 roster not their PS

Also, if a team signs a player off another team's PS the signed player would have to be on the active roster for 3 weeks -- that does include bye weeks.

".... would have to go through waivers to get him back to the PS"
and here is the potential risk. If another team decides to put Nunn on
their PS, because he is not on PATs 53 or PS but waiting to clear waivers ,they could ... and PATs
would lose Nunn. this maybe why PATs would not activate Nunn.

That's why I said team and not Practice squad.

Logic would tell me that Nunn should be activated not Tate. He has been on the PS and has reps with TB. We definately need one of these guys, especially since we are short at RB now too. If Tate is activated he will assume a roster spot(which we can do in 2 weeks), if Nunn gets the call he can go back to the PS and we have time to evaluate Tate. Roster spot flexibility.

The roster has to have 53 for PS players to get a third year of eligibility.
The Pats do not have any players in their 3rd year..so THAT does not matter....Yates was on the PSquad for a 3rd year..so the team could never go into a game with 52...as he would have had to have been the 53rd....THAT is the only time that rule is in effect..with players on teh PSquad in their 3rd year... EDIT actually Adams I belive has been on 2 years prior....my bad...I THINK he would be moved to the 53...so they HAVE to fill teh spots...
I think it's 24 hrs before to add players..although..somehow I remember Maroney on IR before the SD game last year...so???? Not sure of that....They have opened roster spots before...but not for very long....and rarely...but it's not like they have NOT done that... BUT I do not think that will be the case

WR Tate, OL LeVoir on Pats' gameday roster
Rookie will bolster depleted receiving corps

By: Mike Reiss

LONDON -- The Patriots have filled their two open roster spots by activating rookie receiver Brandon Tate and veteran offensive lineman Mark LeVoir.

Tate, a third-round draft choice out of the University of North Carolina, opened the season on the non-football injury list as he was still recovering from torn knee ligaments sustained during his final season with the Tar Heels.

Tate bolsters a receiving corps that has been thinned this week; Julian Edelman is out with a forearm injury and Joey Galloway was released. Tate also should be a factor in the return game.

LeVoir opened the season on the physically unable to perform list with a shoulder injury. With starting left tackle Matt Light out with a right knee injury, LeVoir adds depth.

Rookie Sebastian Vollmer started last week at left tackle. LeVoir projects as the swing tackle -- the top backup -- as he eases his way back into action.

You beat me to it...

It's gonna be interesting to see how much Tate can deliver. He'll get kickoff chances, prob... not much more needed vs Tampa. Interesting that he's the one to go as opposed to Nunn... and interesting that he's becoming available BEFORE the bye.

Good timing. Get some NFL experience heading into the bye and a WICKED string of games. Gonna be a fun game.

Let the Tate era begin

Looks like Tate might also see time on the offensive side of the ball. If he has a good game, there is going to be some crow being served. :D

I was hoping Nunn would have gotten the call.

OK - I can see that logic... feet wet in a probable win - hardcore after the break. Is it bad karma for me to keep refering to this game as a slam dunk win ?

No game is a sure win. Remember Miami a couple of years ago?

To say the least, I'd be as disappointed tomorrow as I was that night... though I do have to give them credit for actually putting that Miami game in the rear view mirror and winning the SB that season !

This is what I thought, and said so earlier- Tate and LeVoir.

We do need depth at OT.

If Tate for some reason doesn't pan out or isn't ready, you still have the ability to option him to IR without having questions asked (commish), and that gives you another roster spot to either give to Nunn, or another 50 year old, washed up WR.

I was hoping Nunn would have gotten the call.

Same here. But I'm excited to see what Tate can do. I wanted to see both, but we may have to wait on Nunn.

That can't happen, period. To sign a player off waivers, a team must put that player on the 53.
