Half Time Adjustments

Not sure if this has been mentioned in the other threads but it seems in the 2 losses and even the Buffalo game, there was little if any half time adjustments made to counter what the opponents were doing successfully. In the past, this was always a strong suit of the Pats coaching staff. What the Jets and Denver did against the Pats seemed to be working the entire game whether it was the Jets defensive pass rush and Denver's short outs, there was never any solution to counter these.

Don't forget the BAL game too. Halftime adjustments are always key, and we are not making the proper adjustments, as we did in the past.

been meaning to post this but haven't got around to it; but since you started....

I've been thinking for the past season and quarter or more that something is up with the Pats and adjustments. and not necessarily just what you're posting about, the other way too. it seems that in games where the Pats come out strong in the first half the other team makes adjustments at halftime (as they should) and the Pats have no answers for those adjustments. when the Pats have some trouble in the first half they seem to keep having trouble into the second half. there just seems to be no real effective adjustments going on on either side of the ball. I didn't say no adjustments, because I'm sure some are being made, I said no "effective" adjustments. it's like they go into the game with only one game plan and the other team figures it out and adjusts at halftime and they just keep doing the same thing...I just don't get it

There were lots of halftime adjustments in the games we lost. Unfortunately, the adjustments made were by the opposing defensive coaches and coordinators. Both defense shut out the patriot offense in the second half!

BTW, the patriot DEFENSE had lots of halftime adjustments against Denver. Check out the defensive snaps by Reiss and his analysis. The defense did its job.

All the offense had to do was to score ONE point in the second half. And for the second time, they failed, and the patriots lost the game.

I know the defense is expected to pitch shutouts, but it seems that our offense needs to find away not to be shut out in the second half.

I am indeed somewhat concerned, however, considering the secondary is on pace to give up even more passing yards than last year, and about the same number of TD's through the air as last yr's 31st ranked secondary. The thing that scares me is that we've played a rookie QB in his 2nd start, Kyle Orton, and Trent Edwards. It's not like these guys are above average QB's, what will happen when we go to Indy and New Orleans? Manning and Brees will have a field day.

Although it seems that the D isn't that bad, these stats are bothering me, especially considering the quality of QB. Teams are taking advantage of us through the air just like last yr, when we gave up a ridiculous 27 TD's through the air. This yr, it's on pace 1/3 into the season to be 25.

Although we haven't given up many on the ground, last yr we didn't either, as it was a total of only 8. It simply seems like teams are continuing to exploit the weakness of the defense, which is through the air.

I think that it's a good thing that we have so long until the NO and indy games. I would think that if we played them in the next two weeks, I would expect them to destroy us.

The defense is indeed a work in progress. The defense has played well enough to be 5-0. In the games that we lost, the offense managed a total of ZERO points in the second half.

I think that it will help a lot to have Mayo back. The player I expect to see a lot more of is Burgess. It is Burgess and Banta-Cain that will be the keys in the pass-rush.

We have a bend and don't break defense. The defense has kept the opposing offenses to few points. This is what we asked of them. We all thought that the offense would be scoring plenty of points and could certainly produce with the ball twice in the last four minutes with the game on the line.

My BOTTOM LINE is that the defense is where I expected it to be and the team as a whole is also. I think that we are a playoff team.

Check that anyway. A poster said we had given up 8 through the air, after double-checking, it's only actually 7--so it'd be on pace for about 23, not 25.

I agree that the defense is performing better than originally expected, and I am expected good results down the stretch. I hope they shore up the underneath throws somehow, and yes, you are right--they have played mostly well enough for the offense to score 20 pts and win. Hopefully, we go into the BYE at 5-2, and come out ready for the 2nd half run.
