It's noted that Rodney started his phone conference with a joke...saying that he talked to CoachB and would be back with the team on Sept 1st.....and then silence....THAT is just so Harrison..!! I really wish him well!!!!

Re: A great way to start a presser....Go Rodney!!

...On if we could see a Favre-like return: “Never. Never. For me, that’s a very thin line and a sensitive issue. I don’t want guys on my team, or guys I played with, to have to answer questions about Rodney Harrison’s return. When I made my decision to retire, I made my decision to retire. I just thought it would be very disrespectful of me to come back and forth and not make my decision. That’s why I said June 1 was my date. So now, being fair to my teammates, being fair to the organization I played and coaches I played for, I wanted to make that concrete decision and not have my teammates have to deal with it. I never want to be a distraction. … Like I said in my statement, I’m done. I’m very much so at peace with that.”

Rodney was the definition of a team player and a team leader and Bill's ideal of all in. He did as much for this team off the field as on it, not the least of which was pulling his teamates heads out of their collective asses after the Milloy trade. He gave them one game to wallow and then he challenged them to act like professionals and not broken hearted school girls. The lost again two weeks later, but then went on a tear...

What shapes you is what you lived through but I wish we'd have had a shot at Rodney a few years younger... He's the kind of player who makes you wish they could play forever, kinda like the QB and a certain ILB. And those are rare treasures.

He sounds like he is perfectly at peace with his decision. I'm glad he retired from the Patriots. It would have crushed my to see him in another uniform. Truely a Patriot. Good luck Rodney.

Pretty confident that this will be discussed ad infinitum.. but will he make the Pats HOF??? I think he should for a whole bunch of reasons; how he played, how he led on the team and off...

I can't see how a member of the NFL HOF would not be in the Patriots HOF.

I can't see how a member of the NFL HOF would not be in the Patriots HOF.

But it's not a given he makes the Pro Football one (there is no NFL one) despite two rings and some gaudy position stats...although becoming a media member may help him in garnering votes. However I think it is a given he enters the Foxboro version.

So....... late October or not until November?

I am going to miss Rodney SO much, and I know we all wish him well.

I remember the day we got Rodney. I was so excited we were going to have Milloy and Harrison on the same team crushing opponents. I admit I thought Rodney was at the twilight of his career but I thought Milloy would be able to "pick up his slack."

I was so mad when Milloy was released. It blew me away and to be honest I was angry at BB for thinking Harrison could actually be what Milloy was. This was the hardest lesson in "BB We Trust." Not only did Harrison exceed my expectations but he also showed me a fine line on how to be a pro and not be a primadonna.

When Harrison left San Diego he could of made it an ugly scene. He could of blamed his injuries{hamstring} but he didn't. He just portrayed himself as someone that just wanted to win championships and be a leader and teammate. The same couldn't of been said for another safety.

I think Harrison was always that way and I think he was misunderstood for a lot of years in the NFL because of the vicious nature of this game that he got paid to embrace. Anyway, he became one of my favorite Patriots of all time in the short 6 years he was here.

Very funny - as are the Favarain questions from reporters

He's the first and only 30/30 player in the history of the NFL - what does he need to come back for?

Hopefully the HGH issue doesn't prompt HoF voters to leave him out.

This is a sad day for me. I am a big Rodney Harrison fan. I wish that we could have picked him up earlier in his career, but I'm thankful for the time that we did have with him. He will be missed, IMO.
So many changes, this is going to take getting used to. :(
