who ll be our cb now? delta and wlihite?

great job bill.

pur secondary is....

wilhite-chung-brenda-butler:D

You are an idiot and a troll...evidence by your "Delta" comment. Get lost, punk. Are you 16 years old?

Well now that we turned around those 2 5th rounders for Ohrnberger and a 6th rounder do people have a different opinion about it?

Re: Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia

Wilhite and Wheatley showed promise and they both run in the high 4.x range. Our secondary is stacked and we have others who can run kickoffs, although Hobbs seemed to excel. Honestly, even though I feel we didn't get enough, I'm not terribly sad to see him go. He was never going to become shutdown guy or even a guy who could consistently be matched up one-on-one and win most of the times. That's what we need if we want to get back to the complex blitz schemes that allow us to confuse and get to opposing QBs. We've got some really good ones on the schedule this year (Manning, Flacco, Ryan, etc.).

Not true. Wheatley and Wilhite ran a 4.38 and 4.37 at the Combine.

Savings from 'releasing' Hobbs: $2,250,000

That, by the way, was the fourth-highest available cap savings from a trade or release on the entire team.

That gives the Pats more cap money - not Peppers money, but definitely Taylor money.

They shouldn't pay Taylor more than Vrabel, If they're clearing cap room for taylor that would be a big dissapointment.

looks like leigh bodden will be resigned after or during this season

Really don't like this trade at all. I would have rather had Hobbs here for a year on the cheap than just get those picks for him.

As much as I liked the way our secondary was going this year with Chung and Butler, this is a step backward I think.

I don't care what you think of Hobbs as a #1 or #2.....he was able to play at a position where we get hit with injuries every year. This is not an area I would cut this early in the year.

I hope BB has some good use for the picks......not like we didn't have enough alread in this draft.....even with the trades into next year.

Disagree. I don't think Hobbs was going to beat out Springs and Bodden. Why spend 2M+ of cap space on a nickel corner? Wilhite looked good last year, Wheatley will be coming off IR, and Butler is going to be an absolute stud at CB and quite soon. Hobbs was the odd man out and so BB showed him the door and got some late round picks in return.

JT has ALWAYS been a better player than Vrabel. Why wouldn't he get paid more?

I know you guys won't agree...but when healthy...I thought he was the best cover corner on the team.

That being said, the Pats screwed this one up I think.

Disappointed to see Eillis go, thought he was good as a KR but with the depth at cornerback now with Bodden, Springs, Butler, etc... he was replaceable and considering he was one of the guys that gave us the most cap space of who could be released it could be a good move.

If the Pats sign JT then I'm happy with this trade, if they don't get JT in now then I'll remain disappointed with this trade as I think Hobbs would of been good with what we have at cornerback now.

I like Hobbs a lot as a player, and I think people bagged on him way too much.

That being said though, between Wheatley, Wilhite, Springs, Bodden, and Butler, we're already five deep at corner. Something had to give. Assuming all those guys are healthy, Springs and Bodden are at least as good as Hobbs, and last year's rookies have the ability to be as well. The only question is Butler, but he is buried on the bench right now except when they need to flood the field with DBs.

I do agree with the concern about a lack of KR.

When exactly was that anyway?? He hasn't been healthy since rookie training camp.

Probably not. If Bodden has a good year he's going to be very hard to resign. I think we'll enter the 2010 season with Springs/Butler/Wheatley/Wilhite and a mid round/JAG pickup(s) next offseason.

Like others said, $2M+ was just too much to pay for a nickel guy. I think, as much as anything, this move sends a message that the kind of mediocrity Hobbs displayed will not be tolerated.
Although, they did re-sign James Sanders...

Re: Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia

Can't say I'll miss him.

Great trade. Can't believe Philly gave up anything for hiim. He's JAG and one year left on his contract.

Pats need the space for wilhite, wheatley, springs, bodden, and now butler. That's 5.

No room for the mediocre Hobbes.

I just wish they hadn't drafted an UDFA guard. Why?

Re: Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia

Not sure if it's enough but I'm glad he's out of here.

I think we were the 31st ranked secondary last year - and Hobbs has to shoulder a lot of that blame... our free agency moves more than the draft made this possible

Methinks Deltha O'Neal bears a little more of that blame.
