Its Official: Miami-Jets game flexed to 4:00

Evidently this does need to be explained because the results of the Patriots/Bills game is irrelevant to the Jets (which is what the last 100 posts have been talking about). They are in if they win and the Ravens lose, else they are out.

So, whether it's 2 games (Dolphins/Jets and Jaguars/Ravens) being played at the same time or 3 (include Pats/Bills), it is indeed irrelevant to the Jets as far as their playoff hopes are concerned.

Wrong. The Pats/Bills game is not irrelevant for the Jets.

Obviously.

BB said on weei it kinda makes their job simpler-just concentrate on our game.there is nothing else to watch

What did you want him to say?

Okay, so let's say the NFL didn't move the Jets-Fins game or the Ravens-Jags game, and they're all playing at 1 pm along with the Pats. It's halftime and the Pats are blowing out the Bills, and the Ravens are blowing out the Jags. The Jets are then in the same "may as well tank it" scenario that many here are fearing will happen late Sunday afternoon.

In other words, there's no conspiracy by the NFL; the same thing could happen whether or not those games were moved.

Yeah, but that's 3 IFs instead of 1! And the one IF in play here, (i.e. IF the Ravens lose to the Jags) is really really weak.

Why not play all 3 games at the same time or at least move the Ravens to 4 pm and leave it at that?

....less likely to happen in 2 games than 1 though. Of course it COULD happen, but less likely. I'm not sure why people are arguing against the fact that this gives the Dolphins an advantage..it's obvious.

Instead of this board arguing, we should listen to what they're saying in Miami.

All the columnists and fans are gleeful about this.

I don't know why I should be elated because a bunch of mediots and all of the Dolphins 4 fans are excited about this.

It could end up backfiring.

You're absolutely correct regarding comebacks.

The point I was trying to make was in regards to those that felt the Jets-Miami game being moved to 4 pm was awful for the Pats, because of the likelihood of the Jets tanking. In my opinion there is no greater chance of that (Jets tanking) happening with a 4:00 game than a 1:00 game.

There is a greater likelihood.

We're talking about what happens when the Jets realize their playoff hopes are dashed.

In the early games, it would be less likely that their hopes are dashed because you'd be relying on both the Ravens AND Patriots to be killing their opponents by halftime. It may very well happen, but you can't argue that this is LESS LIKELY than only one of these teams jumping out ahead.

Furthermore, if you just moved the Ravens game, the Jets would not be out of the playoffs at all until some point after 4 pm (assuming they beat the Phins).

I'm not elated at all by their joy. Their joy is what sucks about this.

LOL, I TOTALLY did not mean to type elated....I must have had some sort of mental slip.

I was going to say I don't know why it should matter to me that their joyful. It could backfire.

After all, many times have circumstances been aligned for things to go your way and then it doesn't. It happens all the time.

I'm not surprised they're happy. But I also don't think it means doom.

Well, that's true. I'm obviously hoping the Jets beat them, because that's our only chance to make the playoffs if we beat Buffalo.

Mort is leaning towards Mangina staying for next year even if they lose this week - that's good news IMO, if the players think the coach will be stable and they're playing for their jobs for next year.

Why not play all 3 games at the same time or at least move the Ravens to 4 pm and leave it at that?

Why would they move a potentially meaningless game to 4 as their only option to show the entire country?

The real question is even if the jets do honestly lose, will anyone in Patriot Nation ever believe they didn't lay down?

It will be another sordid chapter in this saga.

Agreed. Either way, it's a good thing that the media is pounding this angle of Mangini's job in question, makes it all the less likely for a 'laying down' situation.

It isn't even the laying down I'm worried about, it's the natural letdown when you know you're most likely out of it.

I don't know that much about the Jets/Dolphins relationship. Is it bad?

I don't think the Jets will feel let down at all unless the Ravens are up BIG at halftime. And unless that team completely hates Brett Favre they're going to want to win his finale. They DID have a pretty nice thing going through the midseason so there was likely some sort of attachment built there.

Why would they move a potentially meaningless game to 4 as their only option to show the entire country?

It's not their only option. There are 3 other games.

Why would they do it? Integrity. If they had any, they would make teams that are still alive compete their hardest on the field.

That's the whole point of this thread.

The NFL has no integrity, get it?

This divisional crap sucks. It should be the top 6 teams record wise that get in. It's lame that a potential 8-8 team (chargers/donks) could get in while the Pats get the shaft.

Am I naive in thinking that the sole reason behind the NFL's scheduling decisions this week is to get the highest possible ratings? They couldn't do that if NE-Buf, Jax-Bal, and Mia-NYJ were on at the same time. What would CBS feature at 1? The only other game with any potential playoff implications is Oak-TB (and that certainly is NOT a ratings grabber).

I might have some problem with it if Jax-Bal was left at 1 as well, but having that game at 4 matters. Even if the Jags get up 14, 21, 24, whatever, do you think that score will be shown in the Meadowlands? I remember in Green Bay back a few years ago, both their Week 17 game at home vs. Denver and the Vikings game at Arizona were at the same time. The Packers didn't show the Vikings score once during their game, even when their game was getting out of hand, they withheld that score until their game's conclusion. Then the immortal "Josh McCown to Nate Poole" connection came through and knocked the Vikes out.

Even in 2002, when the Pats beat Miami in Week 17, the Meadowlands didn't show that score until its completion (Jets-Packers, as you all remember I'm sure, was a 4:05 start, and Pats-Dolphins was a long game that also went into OT). They held off until they knew they were playing for the AFC East. Would they have shown the Pats score if they had lost? Who knows? Personally, I'm not sure they would have.

Again, call me naive, but I just don't think this is as big a deal as it's being made out to be....
