Colvin returning to Foxboro

With our injury rate (and the whole league's, really), the word of the day seems to be Depth. We can't have enough lately:cool:

I love getting him back, he will make an improvement

Stat of the day. Not saying it's causal or coincidental but it is what it is :

Before Colvin got hurt last year Vrabel had 9.5 sacks through 11 games. Since then Vrabel has had 6 sacks in 20 games.

I think Vrabel's been playing hurt, personally. Either way, he's not been real effective as a pass rusher, though when I've paid attention to him, he is forcing the QB to step up at least.

My ideal Patriots nickel package (excluding the 5 DBs):

........................Seymour.........Wilfork
................. AD.....Mayo.....Guyton...[healthy] Colvin

I want to continue to see Wilfork in more passing packages, that way when the QB is forced to step up, there's less room in the pocket with the big fella barreling down. If Colvin is even 75% of the player he was last year, he should have better impact on the pass rush then the currently hobbled Vrabel.

It goes back to last year too, he had 9.5 sacks through 11 games then in the 8 after Colvin got hurt he has zero sacks in 7 of them, saving his overall numbers with a 3 sack game against Miami.

The no Warren is killer. When AD went down, I was ready to throw up my hands and just say "WTF is going on here, football gods." The idea of not having Warren down the stretch is a little bit of the same. It might just be an injury or two too many, but if they come back healthy, then I maintain we're as good as anybody in the AFC.

I'm thrilled by this news! Always thought the Pats should've found a way to keep him. It sucks that they're doing this out of desperation, but at least he's back. :)

Edit - One thing I didn't like from his Q&A was this:

What kind of shape are you in?
“I am in great shape to wake up in the morning, to do my daughter’s hair, to run up and down the stairs and get their clothes and prep them for school, take them to school, come back home, enjoy the day with my wife, go to the UPS Store, and come home and eat diner. I guess I was in good enough shape that they felt comfortable bringing me on, so we’ll see what happens.”

Doesn't strike me as confident regarding his football condition.

It's a steep dropoff for sure, but I think Vrabel must have had an injury during that time span, we know that he is fighting something this year according to reports. Including playoffs, Adalius has 13.5 sacks in the last 19 games, so that makes me doubtful that its Colvin's absence alone that has caused Vrabel's drop off, since Adalius has maintined Colvin's level of pressure, and demanded the attention Colvin demanded from offensive line's.

IMO, when all 3 are healthy, if I have to pick 2 out of the 3 to rush the passer (Colvin, AD, Vrabel), I choose Colvin and AD.

Players not present for the media-access portion of the practice included:

DE Ty Warren (groin)
OLB Pierre Woods (mouth)
OLB Adalius Thomas (forearm)
OLB Vince Redd (unknown)

Add in the word about Vrabes having shoulder problems and I think it's obvious why BB reached out to Rosie (the good looking well spoken one, not the fat loudmouthed one) for help. Just being in the rotation will help this depleted corps.

where in the hell is Jarvis Green? Dude always used to fill in for an injured Seymour, whats been going on this year?

I hope colvin is healthy, but I have some serious questions about a dude whos been on the couch since TC.

The injury report says "Woods (mouth)", but I'm speculating that he might be concussed. That was a serious shot he took, bouncing off Miller.

Regards,
Chris

Doesn't sound like Rosey is 100% ready or...

committed to coming back to playing football in NE (Or anywhere for that matter) after reading excerpts of his interview today;......

Firstly....He has mixed emotions about coming back to play football.............umm....what?

Secondly when asked what kind of shape he was in .....He said well I am able to get up every morning now and take care of my daughters......and that he has nothing to prove....and that the Pats thought he still had enough physical ability left to contribute....doesn't sound like the words of a confident and motivated man at this stage of his career........and doesn't sound like he is sure that he wants to be here.......

But I guess we are in emergency mode trying to stop the bleeding that is our defense.....so anything is worth a chance......

seriously already a thread on this.

was he saying it in jest?

who really cares.... his production is what we want. if he delivers we'll be happy, if not then we tried.

Good move by the FO, at least to try to shake things up and get some fight back in the locker room. Let's hope Colvin brings some much needed energy after not having played in a game for a year!

"get some fight back in the locker room"

That is an interesting comment....did you listen to or read the transcript on his interview today.....He didn't sound too crazy about coming back to football....or New England......He sounds like he was really happy being at home with his daughters....and has "Mixed emotions" about playing again......doesn't exactly seem to have the mindset we need right now......

Try some compressed air on your decimal point key, I think it's stuck.

That was a vicious collision. You could see the blood dripping from the mouth when he was on the sidelines. Too bad..Woods was playing well I thought.

You go away for a day and miss something. If he's healthy I'm happy he's back.

If Rosie didn't want to play football again, he'd have said "no thanks" when the Pats came knocking.

If the Pats didn't think he was fully committed, they wouldn't have signed him.

If he's a normal human, he dealt with a feeling of failure and loss and has probably been getting used to the idea of never playing again. He's probably excited, but not wanting to set himself up to go through all those feelings again.

If these games even go half well for him, but he doesn't get extended (or offered to extend) he will likely go through that again.

He's also suffered a couple of brutal injuries. That probably resides somewhere in his mind, though I would guess is not a real strong competitor for his attention since he's been through training camp this year.
