Christian Barmore was on hand with his teammates working out at Gillette Stadium Monday.

The Patriots have reportedly had strong attendance so far for their offseason program, with one name in particular that certainly stands out.

Joining players returning to Gillette Stadium for Monday’s start of the offseason was New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore, who was on hand with his teammates working out at the facility.

The team posted photos on their social media channel, with Barmore poised on an incline bench lifting 70-pound dumbbells, which is a positive sign given what he’s been through.  The veteran spent last season dealing with blood clots, which sidelined him for the majority of 2024.

He returned briefly late last season, but reportedly suffered a setback that again knocked him out of the line-up.

Barmore is a young core piece of New England’s defense, with the club making it a priority to sign the former 2021 second-round pick to an extension last offseason.

But before he ever got a chance to take the field last season, he was diagnosed with blood clots in late July, which was certainly a tough blow to the Patriots defense.

It’s been a tough road ever since.  Based on what we’ve seen, they’ll take their time as he continues his recovery, with the hope that they’ll have Barmore in the fold by the time training camp starts this summer.

Vrabel spoke about the young defensive tackle last week, noting that the team will continue being cautious with him as he works his way back.  But his energy was something that stood out, so Vrabel is hopeful his progress continues.

“When he walked into the training room, the trainers, and just his energy and presence, so I know that he’s feeling better,” said Vrabel.  “We’ll continue to evaluate him. That’s something very serious. We take the health of our players extremely serious, especially when you’re talking about something like blood clots.”

“We’re going to have a great plan for him. We’re going to do right by him, whatever is necessary, however we can get him to help us, based on days of practice, based on everything that he needs. We don’t have that plan yet, but we’re continuing to work through it.”

The Patriots are thin at DT, so they really need Baremore in there with Milton. DT is a position that rotates quite a bit. Right now the Pats are thin with players behind the two starters. Pharms, Tonga, Eric Johnson, Marcus Harris…those guys have had trouble staying on NFL rosters and or have little experience. Can Keion White move inside at all? Pats may want to draft a guy here. Pats gave up over 130 yds/game in the ground and that is the biggest reason that D slipped backwards last year. Once you can’t stop the run, it opens up… Read more »
