The Patriots may be having a tough time attracting high-end talent when it comes to wide receivers, but that hasn’t stopped Eliot Wolf from trying to add potential impact players to the offense.

New England’s de facto GM made a solid signing on Sunday by agreeing to terms with Vikings free agent receiver K.J. Osborn, with Tom Pelissero reporting the addition.

Terms of Osborn’s deal have yet to be disclosed.

His addition is certainly a good one.  The veteran wideout averaged 500+ yards per season over the last three years, including right around 50 receptions each year.

He’s put up similar numbers to what veteran Kendrick Bourne had in San Francisco prior to signing with the Patriots, with Bourne then going on to put up some pretty good totals during his tenure here.

Osborn’s totals  over the last three seasons:
2021: 50 catches, 655 yards, 7 touchdowns
2022: 60 catches, 650 yards, 5 touchdowns
2023: 48 catches, 540 yards, 3 touchdowns

While Osborn isn’t Calvin Ridley, he still rounds out a wide receiver group that after his signing, has taken a small step forward.  As it currently stands, the club now has a group that consists of Bourne, Osborn, Demario Douglas, and Tyquan Thornton, with JuJu Smith-Schuster also still on the roster.

That’s not ideal, with a minimum of one more addition, whether it’s via a trade or potentially the draft next month, still clearly necessary.

However, Osborn is absolutely a step up from DeVante Parker, who the club parted ways with ahead of free agency.  Parker has since ended up in Philadelphia.

For now, that’s been Wolf’s approach, simply adding quality pieces as he continues navigating through a stretch where the Patriots aren’t exactly a popular landing spot.

Fortunately, it’s still March, and it’s also probably safe to say Wolf and the Patriots are far from finished as they continue revamping the offense.
