News Isn’t Good on Patriots Rhamondre Stevenson

The Patriots apparently got some not-so-great news about Rhamondre Stevenson, and it sounds like they’ll be without him for the foreseeable future.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the third-year running back suffered a high ankle sprain, with Stevenson now reportedly set to miss at least “a few weeks,” citing a source.

The injury occurred on the second offensive series for New England, with Stevenson wracking up 26 yards on that drive as the Patriots managed to move the football from their own 20 down into Chargers territory.

However, on a 2nd-and-5 from the Chargers’ 31, he was grabbed from behind and ripped down, with his right leg bending awkwardly beneath him.

He ended up losing the football on the play and had to be helped off the field by two trainers, with Stevenson then heading to the locker room.

Overall, he had appeared to be off to a big day after piling up 39 yards on 9 carries (4.3 avg) through two offensive series. Unfortunately, his day was cut short, and with the game being played in a downpour, it took away one key edge New England seemingly had over the Chargers.

His loss is certainly significant.  Ezekiel Elliott has been a terrific compliment, but he’s been dealing with a thigh injury in recent weeks and obviously can’t handle that extreme of a workload.  The question now is who will step up behind him, whether it’s Ty Montgomery, JaMycal Hasty, or potentially Kevin Harris getting an elevation off the practice squad.

Either way, it’s not good news and given where the Patriots are right now, it’s possible that in a few weeks, there may not be any point in bringing him back.

Stevenson is heading into the final year of his contract, with the former 4th round pick out of Oklahoma standout also among just a handful of offensive players signed through the 2024 season.
