The New England Patriots returned home in Week 9 to take on the Indianapolis Colts in the hopes of getting above .500 for the first time this season.

On offense, quarterback Mac Jones completed 20/30 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown. Although it wasn’t an eye-popping performance, Jones took care of the ball and finished the game without an interception for the first time in 2022.

Kicker Nick Folk again provided valuable points, nailing all four field goal attempts.

The defense, however, was the big story of the afternoon, especially the front seven. Linebacker Matthew Judon and Josh Uche each recorded three sacks to contribute to the team total of nine. That number marked the second-most sacks in a single game in franchise history. Judon now leads the NFL in sacks with 11.5, a three-sack lead over Justin Houston of the Baltimore Ravens.

At their current rate, the Patriots’ defense is on pace to record 60 sacks this season, breaking the franchise record of 58 set in 1977.

We got pressure on early downs and created some long-yardage situations,” Bill Belichick said postgame. “Anytime you have a good pass rush, you have good coverage. And anytime you have good coverage, you have a good pass rush.”

The Patriots will now head into the bye week at 5-4 before they return to action against the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium on November 20th.
