Considering the reaction coming off the field on Sunday by Mac Jones after Calais Cambpell landed on his left ankle, it sounds like the news on his injury is somewhat promising.

According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Jones under went tests on Monday and the results apparently revealed that Jones suffered a “pretty severe” high ankle sprain during Sunday’s loss against the Ravens, and the team is hoping that Jones won’t need surgery.

No timetable has reportedly been set yet in terms of a potential return, but it looks unlikely that he’ll be able to play on Sunday against the Packers.  If that’s the case, it likely means that we’ll see Brian Hoyer out in Green Bay against the Packers.

Hoyer’s last start didn’t exactly go well.  He last got the nod in a Week 4 Monday night game in Kansas City against the Chiefs in 2020 when Cam Newton was out due to COVID.  Hoyer finished the night 15-of-24 for 130-yards and an interception, as well as some questionable decisions late in the first half while the game was still in reach.

Many likely recall Hoyer taking a sack on a 3rd-and-9 from the Chiefs’ 13yd line in the closing seconds of the half while not realizing the club was out of timeouts.  The score at the time saw them trailing just 6-3, and they could have potentially tied things up heading into the locker room.  Instead, Hoyer got up and tried to call a timeout they didn’t have, and time expired.

From there, they went three and out on their first drive of the second half, but Hoyer followed that up with a decent drive that got them down to the Chiefs’ 10yd line on their next possession.  However, the wheels came off when he lost the football on a strip sack and it led to Kansas City putting together a touchdown drive.

That little turn of events essentially ended his night and he ended up being replaced by Jarrett Stidham.

For now, the good news is, it at least looks like there’s a chance we’ll see Jones back under center at some point this season.  Hopefully, Hoyer can at least keep them in a position where a late-season run could be a possibility.
