As we know, Bill Belichick is a big fan of special teams and he quietly locked up an important asset this week.

According to reports, Patriots free agent kicker Nick Folk is back in the fold, with the veteran agreeing to terms on a two-year deal.

The deal is reportedly worth $5 million including $2.19 million guaranteed and, according to Tom Pelissero, could even max out at $5.6 million.  Miguel Benzan of PatsCap.com points out that Folk’s cap hit for 2022 is just $2.165 million, which is the second-lowest of any veteran kicker.

Folk had another solid year in 2021, finishing a perfect 31-of-31 from inside 50-yards during the regular season while missing just three from 50+ (5-of-8).  He was called on to attempt just one field goal during the team’s embarrassing 47-17 playoff loss to the Bills in the Wild Card round, with Folk hitting from 44-yards out.

The veteran started off training camp last preseason in a competition with Quinn Nordin, who ultimately landed on the practice squad after Folk secured the job thanks to his consistent approach.  With Folk now set to resume the kicking duties in 2022, it looks like Patriots fans can cross that position off of the lists of concerns this offseason.
