New England has been dangerously thin at cornerback in recent weeks and they got a bit of bad news after it sounds like they’ve lost a starter for the season.
According to NFL Media reporter Ian Rapoport, Jonathan Jones, who went on injured reserve last week, will reportedly undergo shoulder surgery today and that will end his season.
#Patriots CB Jonathan Jones, who went on Injured Reserve last week, is set for shoulder surgery today, source said. He’s out for the season, a tough reality for NE’s secondary.

Jones was injured in last week’s contest and briefly managed to return. However, the injury appears that it was significant enough where it first saw him placed on injured reserve last week, which would have meant he would miss at least three games.
Instead, since that move, the decision was seemingly made it required surgery. That will now see the veteran defensive back need to spend time recovering and hopefully getting himself back for the 2022 season.
He totaled 20 tackles along with an interception prior to his injury. His loss will likely see New England need other guys to step up and they had a couple who made some plays, with Joejuan Williams and Myles Bryant making some surprising plays Sunday.
Bryant finished with 6 combined tackles as well as a sack. Meanwhile, Williams finished with 3 passes defended in their 54-13 win over the Jets.
Jones is currently under contract through the 2022 season.
