ICYMI: Julian Edelman Shares Funny Reaction To Patriots Re-Issuing Number 11
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports
The New England Patriots signed kicker Riley Patterson to the practice squad on Wednesday but it was his jersey number assignment that garnered the most attention.
Patterson was issued Julian Edelman’s old number 11, effectively ending any speculation it would be retired.
According to NBC Sports Boston’s Darren Hartwell, the reasoning behind Patterson taking 11 was there was simply no other option as kickers are only allowed to wear numbers 1 through 19 and all of those were unavailable but the numbers 11 and 12.
The number of 12 of course, will likely become the only one the Patriots will retire for Tom Brady.
Edelman later reacted to the number assignment news over Twitter with a clip of ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith speaking likely the way he felt.

The good news for Edelman? He remains all but a lock for the Patriots Hall of Fame and a red jacket in his future.
