The New England Patriots revealed on Tuesday that former wide receiver Julian Edelman will be honored with a special halftime ceremony during this upcoming week’s game against the New Orleans Saints at Gillette Stadium.

Back in the spring, Edelman formally announced his retirement from the NFL after 12 seasons with the Patriots.

“It’s been the best 12 years of my life,” Edelman said in a social media video at the time. “It’s a hell of a run and I can’t forget you, Patriot nation. You guys have welcomed me and my family to a region we did not know. But now, I’m one of you. I’m going to leave you guys with two words: Foxboro forever.”

Edelman retired from football with his name all over the Patriots franchise record book for receivers. He is second all-time in total receptions with 620, fourth with 6,822 receiving yards, and ninth with 36 receiving touchdowns. The most notable achievements in Edelman’s career however came when it mattered most as he sits second all-time in NFL history with 118 postseason receptions, only behind Jerry Rice’s 151 catches in the playoffs.

Over his career, Edelman became one of 15 NFL players with at least 1,000 career postseason yards and his 1,442 postseason receiving yards are second all-time behind the 2,245 playoff receiving yards by Rice.

In 2018, Edelman capped off a bounce-back year coming off an ACL injury with a Super Bowl MVP award during the Patriots’ 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. He logged 10 receptions for 141 yards during the game.

It is sure to be a memorable memory for Edelman to say goodbye one final time with fans in attendance.

We’re onto the Patriots Hall of Fame bubs.
