The 2020 NFL season was a rather forgettable year for both Julian Edelman and his New England Patriots.

For the first time since 2008, the Patriots missed the playoffs, while Edelman played in a career-low six games following a knee injury.

Since Edelman was drafted by the Patriots a year later in 2009, he had never played for a team that didn’t qualify for the NFL’s postseason until this year.

Despite the up and down challenges, Edelman’s veteran leadership remained on full display this week when he posted an inspirational message reflecting back on the season to his social media accounts Monday.

In the following message, Edelman expresses how proud he was of his teammates while also thanking the Patriots fanbase for their continued support all year.

As 2020 comes to a close, the soon to be 35-year old Edelman is under contract through next season, but his future with the Patriots remains unclear as Head Coach Bill Belichick looks to re-tool the roster this offseason. If Edelman stays in New England he has a salary cap hit of $6.7 million.

Edelman finished the year with 21 receptions for 315 yards, but 179 of those yards came on a career night against the Seattle Seahawks in Week Two.

As for what is to come next for the “squirrel”? Guess we’ll just have to keep going and find out.
