Long before he became one of the NFL’s premiere cornerbacks, Stephon Gilmore was just a young kid growing up in “Football City USA”, Rock Hill, South Carolina.

As stay at home and quarantine orders remain in effect around the country, Gilmore, like many of us, found himself missing sports this weekend.

So on his Instagram Saturday, Gilmore reminisced about his childhood and shared a photo from when he played for Rock Hill’s youth football program.

“I rocked the long sleeves back then too. Football City USA 🔥#missingsports #5 #24 #rockhillsc”, Gilmore wrote.

As for his present NFL career, earlier this month Gilmore spoke with the McCourty twins on their “Double Coverage” podcast and explained why he thinks he’s “blossomed” with the Patriots.

“Me, in Buffalo, the first five years, I had four different defensive coordinators, three different head coaches. So I was kind of trying to learn each and every year,” said Gilmore. “Once I got to New England, I got some consistency and the same guys around, same coaches. I feel like that is why my game took off more.”

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year will look to continue being an elite corner into 2020, and he can credit those early years in Rock Hill as helping get him to where he is now.
