On Wednesday, the New England Patriots announced their 2010’s All-Decade team.

The team was complied by the Patriots Hall of Fame Nomination Committee, a 27-person panel consisting of reporters, alumni and staff, who gathered virtually on Monday, April 13, to nominate, debate and select the members.

The team is comprised of 29 positions, beginning with 12 offensive players, including a flex player, 12 defensive players, one kicker, one punter, one returner, one special teams player and a head coach.

Julian Edelman was the only player selected to two positions, one as a wide receiver and the other as a returner.

According to the Patriots, “of the 28 representatives on the team, 16 were unanimous selections. Five of the members were also members of the 2000s All-Decade team. Quarterback Tom Brady, guard Logan Mankins, wide receiver Wes Welker, defensive lineman Vince Wilfork and head coach Bill Belichick have the distinction of being selected to both teams.”

Six members of the Patriots all-decade team were also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s all-decade team, which was announced earlier this month.

Following the announcement, defensive tackle Lawrence Guy spoke with the media and shared his reaction to making the team.

“I am honored to be on that list,” Guy said Wednesday. “Going through what I went through at the beginning of my career it shows that a lot of hard work and dedication can lead to a lot of ways and it shows that other people who were in my shoes, or are in my shoes now going through their process in the NFL, that they can achieve something if they put their minds to it. They can achieve their goals and their dreams to be recognized as being a good player in people’s eyes.”

Guy, a seventh round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers, came to New England before the 2017 season and has played a key role on the Patriots front seven after being presented with the opportunity for significant playing time.

“Well, you know, success comes from pretty much what you put in on it,” Guy said. “I would say the Patriots gave me the opportunity to showcase my talent and gave me the opportunities to sprout my wings more. But all that being said, you’re only as good as what you put into it. If you’re not going to put in the work, or you’re not going to put in the time to get better and constantly improve yourself, you’re not going to accomplish your goals and dreams.”

During his three year Patriots tenure Guy has done just that, in 2019 he logged a career high 61 tackles and 3 sacks, the most in his career since 2015 when he was a Baltimore Raven.

Guy has started 15 regular season games or more all three seasons in Foxborough and discussed how the Patriots helped him reach that level of success.

“Being with the Patriots, what they do is if they see that you can see your goals, they push you. That is what you want to be. You want to be pushed harder, but they understand the aspect of how you play and developing and they work with that. They don’t work around it, they work with you to make sure you’re truly able to reach your full potential and I feel like I joined at the best time of my career because like I said, they gave me the opportunity to sprout my wings. They gave me the opportunity to grow as I wanted to grow as a player, as a teammate and a leader on and off the field.”

As the Patriots defensive front seven enters a transition in 2020, Guy now finds himself as one of the veteran leaders moving forward.
