NFL Week 13 TV: Eagles at Patriots broadcast in 43 states
Greg M. Cooper - USA TODAY Sports
When the NFL and FOX bumped the Carolina Panthers-New Orleans Saints game from an early start to a late afternoon kickoff, I thought that would have an adverse effect on the distribution of the New England Patriots game against the Philadelphia Eagles. FOX has a history of much preferring to promote their ‘own’ teams – i.e., NFC teams, as that network owns the broadcast rights to the NFC games.
Much to the delight of most out of town Pats fans, that will not be the case next Sunday. The only areas that will not receive the New England-Philadelphia game are those in the television markets of NFC South teams. For those of you living in the southeastern United States that don’t have the Sunday Ticket, it’s another Sunday off to the local sports bar if you want to catch the Pats; for the rest of the country, you will be able to see the Patriots from the comfort of your living room couch.
And in case you missed it, the Week 14 game between the Patriots and Houston Texans has been flexed to Sunday night on NBC. The Seahawks-Ravens game gets pushed back to an early start on FOX; there are no other changes to the Week 14 schedule. That means that there will be an overload of 1:00 pm ET games (11!) and only the minimum two late afternoon games (one each on FOX and CBS); by comparison there were four 4:00 pm games in Week 13.
For Week 13 most of the country will get Seattle at Minnesota early, and Philly at New England late on FOX, who has the doubleheader. On CBS most of the eastern United States will see the Jets-Giants game early, while most of the western US will receive Denver at San Diego late. As is always the case, local affiliates may request to change to another game, but here is the preliminary broadcast schedule.
EDIT: FOX made a massive shift in broadcast plans, and now the Panthers-Saints will be their primary late afternoon game. The Patriots-Eagles will only be broadcast in about 17 states, mostly in New England and the Mid-Atlantic.
