FOXBORO, MA — Bill Belichick announced on Monday the team officially signed 2001 draft choice defensive back Brock Williams, and then immediately placed him on injured reserve.
Williams was selected in the third round by New England (86th overall), but tore the ACL in his left knee back in June. Belichick had good things to say about the former Notre Dame standout, and Williams has a reputation of being an extremely physical player . Now fans will have to wait until next season to see what Williams is truly capable of.
Williams started at left cornerback for the Fighting Irish in 2000 after sitting out the ’99 season. He led defenders in playing time while starting all 12 games, including the 2001 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl vs. Oregon State .
