Maurice Drew is a short guy getting short shrift.
In fact, his 5-foot-6 3/4 height raises more eyebrows than his 28.5-yard career punt return average at UCLA, his 4,688 career all-purpose yards (in three seasons) or his 322 yards rushing and five touchdowns against Washington State in 2004. All of which makes one wonder -- is Drew going to be asked to run the football in the NFL or defend the post in a half-court offense?
-----
He has most of the measurables -- speed, strength, quickness. He has the production. He has the intangibles of heart, work ethic and character. And he'll soon have the motivation to remind every team that passes on him at the end of this month that it's not the size of the dog in the fight that makes a difference but the size of the fight in the dog.

His High School Principal is Tommy's Uncle.

Would love to see us grab him with our first third rounder at #75 and probably a good chance he would be available.

drew is an early 2nd mid 2nd. no way he drops to #9 in the 3rd.

Smurf-running back? We like smurf-receivers....... Let's try a midget RB! :rocker:

He might be available in the 3rd, stranger things have happened.

He's kind of like Kevin Faulk #2 though. Do you really need two of them? Can this guy hold onto the ball better? After all, Kevin Faulk had all kinds of rushing records at LSU. Plus he sounds better suited to indoors, than out. Maybe not.

BB likes big RBs also. D'arrius Howard in the 5th/6th is a darkhorse.

Why not? Who are the teams that are going to be looking at him in the 2nd round?

SOME GUYS are going to slip into the 3rd round and even farther.

I am on board for all the smurf RB's...upgrade Faulk and Pass this year and maybe Dillon next year...too risky taking a back to replace Dillon. Too much money invested in 1 position and we need Dillon's leadership which would turn sour if he's pissed all year.

Good post, and my thoughts exactly. Better to look mid rounds for RB, WR. The drop in talent is not significant at these positions from rd 1 to 4 in most years, and the potential for late round steals and early round busts is extremely high for both positions. Look how many great NFL backs and WR's went rd 3 or later.

how many of those great nfl backs who went rd 3 or later played for Denver though?

Drew can return Punts

I think he averaged something like 28.5 yards per return last year. This would be an ideal place for the Pats to upgrade themselves. He may be too small to ever get on the field if BB insists he be able to pick up blitzing LBs and Safeties.
