Bill Leavy, the NFL referee who is best remembered for his admission of making two big boo-boos in Super Bowl XL in Detroit is being taken off the field this season and will be bumped upstairs to a supervisory role in the league’s officiating department.
While nationally, Leavy is best known for admitting he “kicked” two decisions in the fourth quarter of Pittsburgh’s 21-10 win over Seattle in Super Bowl XL, Patriots fans might remember him for something else.
Leavy was the official in the now infamous rain game at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 16, 2014. That was the contest the Patriots barely held on and won, 27-25, when Chris Jones blocked Nick Folk’s field goal attempt on the game’s last play. During the investigation of Deflategate, it was revealed that Tom Brady was upset that some of the footballs were over inflated, leading to his alleged demand of team staff to make sure that his footballs are better prepared in the future.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say the NFL is trying to cover something up.
Or put him in a position that, like Mike Kensil, allows him to negatively influence the Pats through a layer of insulation.
