With Harrison as a potential retiree, we will have many open positions (holes?) at defensive back in 2008. The following are in the last year of their contracts: Gay, Scott, James, Wilson, Hawkins and Mitchell. While there may not be much talent among the six, they still represent an important component of the roster. BTW, I have Mitchell OR Hawkins making the squad.
Of course, Samuel could sign long-term, or we could extend Scott, James or Gay. Any of these would be a significant one in solidifying the secondary for 2008.
UNDER CONTRACT AND LIKELY TO MAKE THE 53 MAN SQUAD
CB Hobbs, Jackson
S/ST Harrison, Sanders, Meriweather, Andrews
I expect CB Eddie Jackson could make the PUP list and be added to the team in midseason, and be on the squad next year. He was signed knowing that he would be unlikely to participate until, at best, late in Training Camp.
