How To Blow the 2024 Draft

People act like defense and running the ball early in a JJ Patriots career is a bad thing. Need a 3rd and long throw? He made them.

It’s worked in the past with TB. AVP likes to run the ball in his WC offense.
It worked in the past with Tom Brady because Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback in history. It wasn’t some systemic thing where you can just plug anyone in and expect results.

Upgrading your WRs goes a long way towards upgrading the QB. That’s what they should focus on instead of the #3 QB.

Yes I agree but I just don’t recall anyone calling Tom Brady the greatest QB of all time in 2000 while he was riding pine like JJ would be.

I am trying to not fall
into love or hate any QB in this draft...any one of them except Williams is likely our QB in 3 weeks...

But I'd like to stay away from McCarthy just because he is coming from Ann Arbor and his National title year reminds me too
much of Mac Jones given the support he had around him (Mac made more throws even).

Whiffing on the QB pick....

If they mess that up they basically wasted their highest draft pick in decades when they had two generational prospects at positions of need they could have otherwise gotten.

If we trade down a 2025 draft pick is a must ...
and it needs to have a high probability of being top 15 so we can package both to go up and draft a QB.
I said in another post do the 2-4 probable QB choices next year have more upside than 2-4 this year.

2025:
#2 - Sanders
#8 - Allar
#9 - Weigman
#10 - Beck

.
Sanders Dad doesn't want him going to a cold weather team.

1) Don't draft the best player available at the draft position you're in.

If you stay at 3, and you don't take Marvin Harrison, we'll be back here in 3 years, new coach, new GM, hyping ourselves up for a Day 2 QB to take in the top 5.

I won't cry if they trade down and get a good return for it.

Yes, nothing matters more to winning than a possession receiver. Larry Fitzgerald’s Super Bowl Championship ring collection is locked safely away.

I'm okay with McCarthy at 3 because taking him there means we actually believe he's the best option. I become much less convinced if we trade down and still land him, because that means we may have taken a gamble and lost and are settling.

I think the real way to blow the draft is a trade out of the top 9. This means we blew our chance at any of the Blue Chip players.

There is 1 QB in this draft that has a Kurt Warner or Carson Palmer ceiling, and he's going #1. The rest will get you fired.

If your goal is to never win anything then try to build your team around a top10 WR pick in the draft. It’s a virtual guarantee that you will never win a championship. But since some of you don’t care about stupid ****, like winning a championship, you don’t have to worry about that. You have your shiney bauble possession wide receiver, and that’s all that matters.

If you think this year’s QB class is bad then next year’s is far far worse, which means their next long shot at getting a franchise QB will be in 2026. And that’s only if they are still a 3-4 win team. But hey, at least they will have their possession receiver, and that’s all that really matters. Hopefully they can sign Brissett to a 4 year bridge QB contract. Gonna be fun times in Foxborough, , piling up 3-4 win seasons for the foreseeable future. Can’t hardly wait.

Let's be clear. You expect us to be a 3-4 win team unless we acquire a franchise QB. So, you think that a team led by Brissette or whoever is left will win 3-4 wins for 2024 and 2025 and the forseeable future?

SITUATION FOR OUR FUTURE 3-4 WIN TEAM
1) Brissette and a QB drafted in the top ten of this draft.
2) two OT's drafted in the first 3 rounds in 2024.
3) a top trade and signing for WR's either this year or next offseason.
4) focus on extending our players on Defense to maintain our top 5-10 Defense.
5) more than $100M to spend in a much more friendly free agency in 2025 and probably 2026 (perhaps needing more deferring of compensation, starting in 2026.
6) top draft picks in 2025 and 2026, surely the case if we are 3-4 win seasons in 2024 and 2025.
7) Presuming your failure scenario, we would have the option of drafting a QB high again in 2026 or signing a $50M free agent.
==============
BOTTOM LINE
A) We are a top Defense.
B) We will solidify our OL by the end of the 2025 Draft if not before.
C) We will acquire two top WR's by the end of the 2025 Draft, likely before.
D) And, yes, we will extend our young players.
E) It is simply not the fact that the alternatives are 3-4 wins and a Conference Championship. It may or may not take a top QB to win a Conference Championship. But surely, IMO, with good coaching and management, we can be contenders for winning the Division without a top QB. And yes, we MIGHT be lucky enough to get a top QB in the next decade. How many teams would expect to achieve that goal? In the meantime, there are two tracks: 1) get a top 10 QB and 2) do the best with rest of the team.
==========
I see no reason to fail to be competitive for the division in 2025 or 2026 at the latest, even with Brissette at QB. although, depending on the performance of our rookie, we might need to choose a better veteran than Brissette as our backup (for $10M-$20M, AAV not $0M-$50M.

#3. Spurn a trade down. Minnesota offers three first-rounders? Draft capital? We don’t need no stinkin’ draft capital.

QB JJ McCarthy

In college he was a stellar game manager rarely asked to make big plays. A dominant running game makes mid round talents like JJM look good. When he threw, it was overwhelmingly short or intermediate.

Harbaugh had his run-heavy West Coast offense clicking. The QB was instrumental in calling out plays at the line, making sure they had the correct blocking scheme (It helped that they engaged in Lance Armstrong-level cheating), and NOT turning the ball over.

Evan Lazar, rarely wrong, is about his arm being “strong.” It’s not. It’s average. On his rare longer throws, he needs to step into the throw.

In the pros he will disappoint. Unless an inconsistent game manager is what you’re looking for.

That OL! Truly dominant. Zac Zinter, a local Mass boy, will look good in Honolulu blue.

#34 WR Keon Coleman
If you liked N’Keal Harry, wait until you get a sneak peak at N’Keon Coleman* He’s big, SLOW both laterally and vertically, with excellent body control. So go on YouTube and watch all those spectacular catches. Just like Harry at Arizona State.

But as we’ve already found out, that talent doesn’t transfer to the pros with the higher order of DBs. If he can’t make it look easy in college, what do you expect him to do in the pros?

I saw the sidebar with a link to Kiper’s mock with us picking Coleman and the speed, yikes. Definitely NKeal Harry ptsd. A receiver who runs a 4.6 forty? Hard pass.

If we draft JJ McCarthy #3, the draft will be in a nose dive & hopefully many fans will reject the Kraft selections to run this organization after Belichick
