We all know that Curran and Mayo are close personally.

Curran has been pining for a trade down for months.

Over the past two days he started to change his tune…pumping up Drake Maye and his toughness. Then today, he just released his new podcast episode and said “I’ve heard it would take a lot MORE than 3 first round picks for them to consider trading down because of how they see the top quarterbacks ”.

What does it all mean? Could be nothing. Personally, I think Curran got a wink wink from Mayo, “don’t overthink it, we’re taking Drake Maye”.

FWIW

Problem is Was needs to pick first.

I don’t have the exact quote in front of me, but he said on today’s podcast that he’s heard it’s going to take an absurd amount to move the Patriots out of taking a QB at #3, probably even more than three first round picks. So it sounds like they are set at taking someone there, which will quiet any additional speculation about them potentially trading back.

Edit: Here’s the link to the post later in this thread, with the full quote:

I doubt that very much.

The kids in the back are screaming, "ARE WE THERE YET?!?," and yet the draft is still 21 very long days away. The speculation is only going to get deafening. I personally think they're trading up for that Juicy UConn Guard, Christian Haynes at #1 overall. I heard WAS was eyeing that wall of a man at #2 that has Lombardi written all over him.

And here I was thinking they'd most likely trade down and get a bunch of safeties. OFC that's probably just my Pats fan's Pavlovian reflex

This is a waste of whatever the internet is made of.

It is true that Mayo was part of Curran's show back BEFORE he was a coach, so that was at LEAST over 4 years ago and probably more, IIRC. I doubt it was a close enough relationship that gives Curran an exclusive kind of inside info more than any reporter who knew Mayo as a player, businessman, or coach over the years.

The Pats pick at 3 has been as clear as day from the moment the draft order was set. Originally it was either pick a QB or trade down with someone like the VIkes and go with McCarthy. Now with the likelihood that McCarthy will go in the top 5-8. The option becomes pick a QB, or NOT pick one or vastly overdraft one. The heavy odds was ALWAYS to pick a QB at #3, either Daniels or Maye. Recent events make it look even more so.

So basically Curran is telling us what we already knew a month ago. Curran is now up for "the keen sense of the obvious" award. And I don't know which is more of a waste. Curran's observation or my commenting on it ;)

Curran has been all about trading down, now he's changing his tune? Guess what he's really all about? Clicks.

Good. Stay there and take Maye if he's there.

What if this is part of the Pats psych ops strategy and Mayo gave Curran the go ahead to pump up the QBs to drive the price up for the trade down? Since this is the silly season, it is hard to take anything too seriously. I can't wait for this to be over.
