Jerod Mayo at AFC Coaches Breakfast

The more I hear Mayo talk the more I find myself disliking him for some reason.
He's sort of an uncomfortable cross between Bronco Nagurski and Gwenneth Paltrow.

If the polling here is any indication then more than 80% of Patriot fans are not going to be happy if they pass on the QB at 3, and I am definitely in that category.
No matter what the Pats do with this pick, 80% of Patriot fans will not be happy.

I’ll be happy with either Maye or Daniels at 3 so that’s what they should definitely do.

That'd be fine with me as well, but given their many needs at various positions I do think they must listen to whatever offers may be forthcoming for that 3rd pick.

According to a poll that got significant response here over 80% of those responding want the Patriots to stay at 3 and take a Quarterback. Whether or not that’s completely accurate is unknown, but it’s a pretty good reflection of what posters here want them to do.

It might reflect that some lack the maturity of judgment to wait until the facts (in the form, for example, of offers for the 3rd pick) are in.

I want the talent evaluators and coaches to be on the same page with any QB they take.
It would be really interesting if McCarthy goes over Maye and or Daniel’s.

Agree. Mayo is learning quickly. One thing that hasn't changed yet is that he's very approachable and may over-talk some questions, which is a welcome change after BB. But, he may learn that is all wasted energy. At least he shows the respect to the press and fans that are clamoring for info.
Wait until the press and radio/tv swamp-rats start crapping all over Mayo, twisting his words. Then you'll see why Belichick was the way he was. The media absolutely cannot be trusted, all they do is look for controversy and clicks. They are self-proclaimed critics with little actual knowledge.

If they believe the QB is a franchise caliber quarterback there is no offer that can trump that, as you would have to give up the same amount to turn around and get one in following years. You can get a high quality player at any other position in the first half of pretty much every draft, teams find themselves having to give up 3 first rounders routinely to have to go up into the top five for their QB, which separates that from every other position. People who lack maturity of judgement don’t really understand this yet, but someday they most likely will. You don’t win championships with mediocre quarterbacks, and the Patriots won’t be winning anything until they get is really good quarterback,

If the QB doesn't pan out then obviously that means Wolf and Mayo were "forced" to pick him. Or so the logic goes...

If some believe they should take the same “ haul” they would have to turn back around give another team to go up and get their franchise quarterback in a future draft, it’s just because they are lacking in maturity of judgement. People shouldn’t be harsh on them, they will eventually grow into a more mature judgement and realize that mediocre quarterbacks don’t win Lombardi’s.

They can and have, but in most cases their defense was really special. (2000 Ravens, 2002 Bucs, 2015 Broncos and so on). The Pats don't have that luxury.

Those people are confusing "high pick" with "best return", and that it definitely not always the case. In fact it's only the case with a transcendent talent, which is very hard to determine with a 21 year old.

Yes we only get to pick #3 once in a generation, and yes there appear to be some good QB's. But #3 is also extraordinary draft capital that can be converted to a half dozen top 75 picks over the next 2 drafts, and totally remake this team wherever it needs improvement.

I thi
Im telling you man. All signs are a trade down is incoming. Get ready for the qb of the future being a tier 2 guy like Nix, Penix, Pratt etc.
I think Mayo talks TOO much. The whole world doesn't have to know your plans. You can be nice without telling media EVERYTHING.
Honestly I just believe he's being himself.. that's his personality.. everything isn't a pentagon secret in the NFL.. everyone knows we sucked last season.. the offense was worst in the league, everyone knows what he need and what we don't have.. he will learn to balance things out as his coaching tenure goes along..

If Mayo starts winning.. everyone will like him.. until then he has to prove himself..

I liked him already lol
You and I both. Lol we had a legendary coach for years who spoke like he was holding pentagon war codes to the media. I'm embracing the new era personally..
