Thought I would start a thread.

Some of the highlights from my POV:

- Says there are "5 or 6" QBs in this draft who can be their QB of the future, but no indication of who they are
- Talks about trading down quite a few times; at one point says "the guaranteed way to win is the get more picks"
- Talked a lot about Drake Maye when asked - said he has a high ceiling, but then also seems to imply he has a low floor
- Still working trade market, there will be guys who come available at the draft and after the draft that they may target
- Seemed to imply Okorafor is currently the starting LT if no one else was acquired, but the draft has not happened yet, etc
- Showed awareness of the NFLPA report card and said they have a team built that is targeting fixes to areas with low scores
- Highlighted belief in development of drafted QB and his staff's ability to do so, and how it did not go well in that area for Mac in '22

If one is to try to read the tea leaves a bit here -

- they like a lot of QBs
- they are open to trading down
- they really love the idea of getting more picks
- they don't really have a starting LT

Definitely reads to me like they're inclined to trade down. Especially when you consider that they feel Maye has a "low floor" - that probably puts him in a similar bucket with someone like McCarthy, and then who knows who the other couple of QBs are - Nix is probably one, but they have almost entirely avoided Penix so I kind of discount him - Rattler, maybe? If that's the case, a trade down certainly could position them to fill WR/LT/QB all in one draft.

Im telling you man. All signs are a trade down is incoming. Get ready for the qb of the future being a tier 2 guy like Nix, Penix, Pratt etc.

Trade down I think has always been on the table. My personal preference is to take the QB while you've got a high enough pick to do so, but there's value in both philosophies I think. I don't know if this interview makes it more or less likely they're going to trade down, as this is also the time of smoke screens and misinformation (and they haven't even had the pro days for most of these QBs yet). A lot can happen to change minds in the next four weeks.

Mostly what I took from this interview is that Mayo is getting better at them. I felt like this was a more natural and even keeled interview than his introductory press conference. Now, public speaking is probably one of the least important aspects to being a head coach, compared to actual football related skills, so take from it what you will. But still, nice to see, good on him.

Yeah, it was definitely an improvement. No big screw ups. However, he did still keep his genial personality, so that's good to see.

Agree. Mayo is learning quickly. One thing that hasn't changed yet is that he's very approachable and may over-talk some questions, which is a welcome change after BB. But, he may learn that is all wasted energy. At least he shows the respect to the press and fans that are clamoring for info.

I’m fine with a trade down if they are not totally sold on a QB at 3

Since he is mentioning LT. Then trade with the Vikings and get your LT at 11 and QB/WR at 23 and 34 (he did mention Nix). Since it is deep at OT and WR. You can fill 2 holes with above average prospects

Hate that he had to mention if we need a guy, the Krafts said to go spend the cash.
RK’s ego and insecurities are definitely in the fore front.

Mayo used a lot of word to say basically nothing. he basically said that everything is on the table aka I don’t wanna to disclose what we are gonna do.

I read this as more him trying to walk back his comments about "burning some cash" (which he said he didn't regret, but chalked it up to him being a first year HC), without throwing Robert under the bus. I don't think it was a directive directly from ownership, more just him saying, "Yeah, I shouldn't have said that, but it doesn't mean the money isn't there if we want it."

I feel like itd be the opposite. If we really liked the idea of moving down the smart thing would be to act like we truly love the top 3 qbs and it would take a haul to get us to even consider come off that pick.

Rattler, Nix, Pennix.

But Mayo did kind of gush when talking about Maye.
I still think it’s Maye.

Somebody might Reach for Bo Nix in the 20's but I think both Penix Jr and S Rattler are going Second Round. Great value for us either way both have nice arms.

How does Mayo know that 5 - 6 2024 NFL draft QBs are future franchise QBs?

Nobody picked Mahomes as a challenger to Brady. None.

He said he thought there were 5 guys who could be solid quarterbacks. Then, when pressed for names, he said he didn't want to name them but there were 5-6 guys who had qualities you wanted in a quarterback.

So you’re saying get ready for no future, because that’s what it’s going to be with mediocre quarterbacks. And we also get to look forward to them trading 3 first round picks plus in a year or two for an actual franchise QB.

One who is likely a mid tier QB to begin with. (Think a Kyler Murray)

Spencer Rattler is never going to be a good NFL Quarterback.
I'm not judging Ivan: stranger things have happened.
