Patriots releasing retired/reserved OL Jared Veldheer

BB had planned for him to be a starter this year. If they resign him at an adjusted rate that would be nice.

I think the idea was for him to be the swing tackle, not a starter.

RE-SIGN THE POSSIBLY HEALTHY BEAST!

For those wondering why we played Newhouse instead of this potential option, I have to imagine he didn't change his mind about retirement until very recently. Otherwise this release would have happened before now. And as bad as Newhouse has been, he's at least in game shape. I'd rather keep him as the swing tackle (and still pray for health) than start over with a guy who up until last week was mentally done with football.

I had such high hopes for this guy when we signed him. I doubt he is in football shape.

Is there actually someone -- except maybe the captain -- who actually seriously thinks that the Pats kept Valdheer on the retired list and played Newhouse even though the former signaled he wanted to come back at some point this season ?

Of course he just recently decided this and then conveniently waited until shortly before the deadline to tell the Pats. If he had shown any inclination to come back earlier he would have been reactivated and been active once in football shape.

That is a no brainer.

he wants to go where it's fun

If he plays a single down for any other team I will consider this a BB blunder simply due to the fact that it is not possible to be worse than Newhouse
What if he does not want to play for Dante/BB?

He was going to start over Wynn and Cannon?

BB probably just released him for no reason just like he released Gordon and traded Thomas for no reason. Sometime he just says “what the heck, it’s slow, might as well do something.”

I think I have the flu but this makes the most sense to me.

He was going to start over Wynn and Cannon?

It was just a quote I read from somewhere on this board months ago. He was planned to be a starter until Wynn was ready. Should have been at least as good as Newhouse. 3.5 million , up to over 6 with incentives is approaching starter territory.

Packers claimed him off waivers.

He's now a Green Bay Packer

What a prick.

Seems like to me, working for the Patriots was too hard for him so he retired and then waited until our starting LT was back to unretire and collect a paycheck.

He waited until the last week where he could come back and earn an easy ~ 2m for a handful games and no camp.

Wynn had nothing to do with it. Just coincidental timing.

Huh? No he didn't. Who was he going to start in place of?

Some who had reservations about Wynn starting right away thought he'd be eased in with Valdheer getting the start early in the season.

Either way Valdheer would have been the backup within a few weeks.
