The Patriots traded for Albert Haynesworth once. Gordon's the same level of potentially transcendent talent with the same level of issues. I don't see anything wrong with trading for the guy and keeping him on a short leash. It's not unreasonable to think he was trying to shoot his way out of Cleveland, one could hardly blame him and Jackson is a terrible coach and manager of people.
If he works, the Patriots have a Randy Moss caliber player as a discount. If he doesn't, you cut bait and all you lose is like a 6th round pick. I wouldn't give up a 4th or higher for him, but the draft is 4 rounds deep and anything after that is a total shot in the dark. The Patriots have given up mid-rounders for guys like James O'shaughnessy, Cassius Marsh, and Johnson Bademosi in recent years. We're not talking highly valuable assets. We're talking the opportunity to draft Braxton Berrios.
As for his issues, they're pretty severe and self-destructive but he's not a violent person and I would like to see him recover from his addiction. I'd much rather root for Josh Gordon over someone like Tyreek Hill. And sometimes guys do grow up; look at Kenny Britt, after all.
