I don't think it was a mistake.
Amendola was the leading receiver in the post season. The Patriots are likely not in the Super Bowl without him, a game in which he also made major contributions. We are talking about a reliable player well within Brady's circle of trust.

He is better than any receiver on this team not named Edelman or Hogan. We should have ponied up just a little to keep him.

Instead we are paper thin at WR and Edelman is returning from an ACL after missing four games.

It will very likely bite us in the ass at some point if we have no reliable receiver other than Edelman and Hogan (which it seems that we don't).

Amendola may not be as valuable in Miami but he would be quite valuable here with Brady.

Also luuked talks about the money but when you are paying 5 mill for Dwayne Allen it is clear we could make room to keep a worthwhile player in Amendola.

Last year is last year.

Amendola turns 33 on Nov. 2nd, and nothing lasts forever. Allen is a premier inline blocking TE who just turned 28. Not a valid trade-off.

I liked Amendola from the day he was signed, but this can't be said enough. It would have been a huge overpay. Plus, he'll be 33 during the season.

I agree. I loved Dola. I wish he could have retired here when this entire generation walks off the stage. But the Dolphins paid crazy money for what he is.

Your point is well taken, but DA is gone. If there is to be help, I am thinking about flipping a pick for a reliable veteran who could be expendable because of some young ayer a team wants to keep.

No it would make no sense on any BB run team whatsoever to pay Dola what he gets in Miami.

He is getting low-end WR1 money. He is not even a full WR3 and needs to be kept on a snap count or you run risk wearing him down. We are using RBs and TEs so he would be maybe the fifth or sixth option sometimes. He is turning 33. None of this makes any sense in terms of value.

Like I said in a different post I LOVED Dola. I wish he would have retired here. Bringing up Allen being arguably overpaid does not change that what the Dolphins offered Dola was crazy money.
