JayNM, the first stage of knockout rounds can feature Brazil-Germany, France-Argentina. 2 games a lot of people thought could be a possible final.

Two really good games today so far. Belgium looked great, as you would expect them to. Really surprised by Mexico.

Germany v Sweden now, fast start by the Germans, should be 1-0. They've made some changes too, bringing in Rudiger Reus and Hector.

Hmmm, thought Forsberg was pulled back there. Fast break by Sweden.

Excellent football again from the world champions. Dangerous cross from Draxler.

Penalty shout for Sweden, to me it looked like Berg just ran out of steam and Boateng did enough to put him off.

Sebastian Rudy has had a kick to the face and his nose hasn't stopped dripping with blood for a couple of minutes. Ouch.

Terrible positioning by the German centre halves, Toivonen splits them, meets the pass from the wing and chips Neuer. 1-0, terrific finish.

Germany equalise moments into the second half, my boy, the legend, Marco Reus.

Wowwww

Germany 2 Sweden 1. Kroos with a last
Minute goal. What a game!

Never in doubt, even after Boateng was sent off. Sweden were abysmal and their football was shameful with a man extra.

Sweden deserved to lose. How do you play so defensive for 70 percent of the game or more. Germany had one less man and they couldn’t even get possession of the ball from time to time. They chose to sit back and defend. No type of counter like mexico did various times against the Germans.

Hmm... Is it theoretically possible for them to miss if Germany and Sweden win big?

Yes but i believe Sweden has to win by 2 goals at least against mexico I believe.

Most likely outcome. I am sure many had argentina and Germany winning their group. Argentina’s not there yet. Nigeria’ s no pushover and Croatia has nothing to play for.

Woke up too early this morning. Gotta wait til 5 or so hours til 11a for the matches to start. Maybe I'll do some housework with my wife before then, or go out for brunch before it starts. Oh lazy Sundays....

Yes I suppose so. I'm just being optimistic. :D

I've hardly seen any games, but I've decided that, if I have to take sides, I'll do it by which teams have been dirty, which have thrown themselves to the ground and faked injury, and which have been beneficiaries of laughably biased refereeing.

So: down with Portugal! (Boo Pepe! Winner of the Golden Speedos for Best Dive. Boo Ronaldo!)

Down with Brazil! (Boo Neymar!)

Down with Switzerland! (wrestle your man to the ground = no penalty)

Down with Costa Rica! (Mere contact = penalty; pulling to the ground (twice) = no penalty)

Who'm I missing?

EDIT: Two minutes into the game. Guy elbows England player in the head in the penalty area, goes down holding his own head, referee gives Panama free kick.

Boo Panama! Boo soccer!

Was hoping to get out the boozer for the England game but stuck at home instead.

The mighty three lions are the first game of the day, playing Panama, for the first time ever. A win would see them through to the knockout stages.

Big John Stones with a thumping header from a corner to put England in front after just 8 minutes.
