Hackenburg visiting Pats

He's the longest of longshots but if he has PS eligibility I would have no problem having him and Ettling on the roster for the year, never to be seen, working with Jerry Schuplinski and see if something usable comes out on the other end. Very likely not, of course. Very, very, very likely.
It’s kind of the thinking that was floating around about Manziel. Throw him on the ps and see if we can unf#~k him.

Bringing in Quackenbush is part of the Patriots' new "having fun" philosophy. They erected a barn near Gillette and told him to throw at the side of it from 20 yards away, then filmed him missing it. This will be part of the laff reel screened to lighten everyone's mood during training camp.

How did this guy get drafted in the 2nd round? He pretty much sucked at football his whole life.

At one point during his time at Penn State, most were projecting him to be one of the top QBs taken in the draft. Unfortunately for him, he followed up a very good freshman season with a rather poor sophomore season, and then had a mediocre junior year (16 TDs vs 6 INTs), and that slipped him into the second round.

I don’t know how much the Jets allowed him to grow or compete, and I don’t see much of anything with him being released by the Raiders, who already had 3 QBs in front of him—including two that started on NFL teams. I see nothing wrong with kicking the tires.

I don't think Hoyer's job is safe at all ...
They'd have to find someone a lot better than Hackenberg and Etling for his job to be in jeopardy. When that happens, I'll have that opinion as well.

This made me laugh out loud

Worry about him or worry that the jete have a clue?
So this must mean he’s either so terrible that the Jets didn’t even want him, or that he’s about to become the greatest QB of all time since the Jets are always wrong.

No in between here. Boom or bust baby.

Hes the heir.
Between him and Etling we would have what?

He blows. Between he and Etling, I think Hoyer’s job as the back-up is safe.
Hoyer blows too.

We've gone from Grop & Brissett to Hoyer & Etling.

Sad.

Hackaberg, with a full TC, might actually be better than Hoyer coming out of it.

Still wouldn't surprise if Houston brings him in for a workout.

I think Hoyer is gone ... he didn't impress anyone at OTA's.

Reasons to keep Hoyer:

—he knows the playbook and system better than anyone else they can bring in, at least in terms of 2018

—he’s got a cheap salary (about 900k) which is obviously very reasonable for such an important position

—he’s got a dead cap hit of 1.5m dollars, meaning that he would actually cost the team money to release him

———————

Reasons to cut Hoyer:

—he doesn’t seem to be all that good

—roster spot management

Trading JimmyG I'm fine with but at this point I really wish they hadn't traded Jacoby.

The $1.5M is guaranteed salary next year. If they can trade him that goes away.

He's better than Hoyer but he wasn't the long-term answer, either.

I highly doubt that. Hackenberg is total trash and at least Hoyer has won in this league. Etling is garbage too and his best hope is for the practice squad. Either way, if Brady goes down, the season is in the toilet so I guess it makes sense to see how much **** they can throw at the wall and see if anything sticks.

They determined Jacoby didn’t have a future here. It seemed pretty obvious to me.
