Mortensen: Rodney Harrison to be suspended 4 games for Human Growth Hormone

You guys are all jumping to conclusions and assuming the worst.

I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation. Maybe they weren't for Rodney at all but rather growth hormones used in something like, say a dog fighting operation. ;)

Seriously folks - the NFL's been turning a blind eye to this for a long time. There's past guys on our own team (in particular an LB with no neck who was always tearing pectoral muscles) who I've suspected of using HGH and the list in the NFL would be verrrrry long.

It's only because Rodney's name apparently was on a list and when confronted he chose not to lie, but to do the right thing and fess up. That doesn't make him a saint any more than using HGH makes him an evil person.

Then things have changed because I know that you could just purchase it direct from the manufacturer 3 years ago. And there was a manufacturer in AZ selling it online.

If the article is correct, he got caught because he was tied to an online pharmacy that got busted for selling the stuff. I'm sure you can get it, but it isn't legal without a doctor prescribing it.

Did he lie? Nope.
Did he kill someone? Nope.
Did he drink and drive? Nope.

The thing disgraceful is over-reactions by people like yourself.

All you know is that Rodney PURCHASED HGH. Read that again. He PURCHASED HGH. It does NOT say that he USED HGH. It said HE PURCHASED.

Just because someone purchases something, doesn't mean they were using it. As others have mentioned, HGH like steroids, is prescribed regularly by doctors. Until recently HGH was NOT considered a banned substance by the NFL.

Also, there is no time frame set in the article as to when this purchase happened and whether it happened at the behest of his doctor. If it happened while he was still in San Diego, then its BS that he's being punished now. If it happened 6 months ago, then he should only be punished if he actually USED it. However, if it was at the instructions of a doctor, he should be suspended for it.

The thing is, it's against the rules. Rodney should have known better, whether it was illegal or not.

But I don't think the NFL would have suspended Rodney retroactively. So we'll see.

According to the Herald his agent didn't know anything about it as of 8:30 this evening. I can't believe any player wouldn't even mention something like this to his agent and I don't see any reason to trust Chis Mortensen over him.

I am trying to reserve judgement until we hear more, especially from Harrison, who has been a terrific leader.

But can't help but get the sick feeling in the stomach and wonder how severally we - and Rodney, already voted as the league's "dirtiest player" - are going to get ridiculed if this indeed is true. I know how much I detested and mocked Shawn Merriman for resorting to unfair means.

This is certainly a big shocker that has brought down my spirits. Hopefully I get over it by tomorrow.

sh*t....

This captures how I feel.

Wait to hear it from Rodney, he still has my belief of an upstanding man.

I totally agree. It is also disgraceful to see certain people so quick to judge others when they are not privy to the circumstances nor the motivations nor the details behind the action.

:nono:

Well, you are entitled to your opinion. As for me, I can think of no one else I'd prefer to share a foxhole with.

After this? If this was Bob Sanders we'd have 35 pages of calling him a loser and a cheater. Don't deny it. Just because he is/was a Patriot, doesn't change the fact that he is cheater. I don't like cheaters on my team.

I would very much have liked to have Rodney against the F-ing Chargers. Thanks a lot, you F-ing IDIOT.

D@mnit, I hadn't even gotten that far when I was reading this thread.. You aren't kidding, I was so looking forward to seeing him play against them... I am so pissed at Rodney... I bet the Chargers are thrilled, I don't even want to go "over there" and see what they are saying...

**** off. What, you think he bought it to use as a paper weight? Naive much?

Typical response from a jackass like yourself. For your information, real world reality is that people buy stuff and don't use it ALL THE TIME. You show yourself to be so friggin stupid for jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts. When you wait for the facts, its not called being naive. Its called being smart.

Ignorant people jump to conclusions without having all the facts. Smart people make decisions and form opinions when they have more than just heresay. You seem to be the former as are some others in this thread. I try and be the latter and keep my mind open so that I don't make myself look like a foolish arse.

Atleast 50% of the posters on this thread are shoot from the hip, ungrateful, blubbering fools. And I must say the fairest of fair weather fans.

There is a report from ESPN, don't know any of the details, but yet you are ready to tar and feather one of the best players we have had in the past 5 years.

You all make me sick. I'll wait until I know more detail before I'll become disloyal, maybe you people should too.

OK Goody two shoes. Maybe we should wait to find out what happened before we judge.

He looks like a roider. He's got the jaw of one; the same look guys like Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Bill Romanowski and other known HGH/roiders have. This really doesn't surprise me in the least, though it does disappoint me.

Luckily the tandem of Sanders and Meriweather can hold up before Rodney returns, but clearly this is the end of any hopes for Rodney to make the hall of fame, despite him being one of the best safeties ever (and, unfortunately, artificially enhanced). I definitely have to laugh at the people who are claiming that this isn't a case of artificial enhancement, either; the facts, here, are likely irrefutable, since the NFL doesn't move against players (especially ones with the pedigree of a Rodney) without that sort of evidence because they know the union will come after them.

I'm surprised at people's reactions....

Obviously it's very sad that we lose such a great player for a quarter of the season (or is it? less injury risk, fresher for the playoffs....)

I've seen articles where ex-players estimate that 50% (i think someone even said it was 80%) of NFL players use some kind of performance enhancer. It is a serious business, everyone wants an edge. Perhaps moreso, they're afraid of the guy they're competing with having that edge.

What with ex-players saying what they do, and the suspensions that occur every year, how could you not conclude that at any given time there are 10-20 guys on the patriots roster "cheating"?

I personally don't have a problem with it. They knowingly shorten their lives just to play professional football, why can't they make their own decisions regarding things like this too?

If the league has a rule, I expect the teams and the players to be obeying the rule. I care about my team and my players and don't care what the hell other teams or their players do to cheat.

I would rather have my team lose on the field after putting up their best and honest efforts instead of cheating just because they are afraid of the doped guy that they're competing.

And, by taking 'this kind of a decision', isn't the player, especially if he is such a vocal leader, bringing a bad name to the entire team and the team's name/achievements? I am curious to know what the others think.

Whew, I was wondering when you'd show up. I was starting to worry about your health. :)

People have a right to be upset. The reason why people are so upset is because they love Rodney so much. Stop acting like people are being jerks by being extremely dissapointed that it is being reported that one of our favorite players has broken the rules and will be suspended. We though better of Rodney. It doesn't automatically mean we're saying he's a terrible person or we should all hate him, it just means that we're very dissapointed.

You may be right about Bob Sanders, but I prefer to judge people based on their character and their deeds past and present. I don't turn on someone for making a mistake. We don't know what really goes on in professional sports, and you might just discover that the Patriot organization (and other NFL teams) are loaded with HGH users. Then you'd have to hate your team.

I dunno. I guess I don't view professional athletes as paragons of virtue and perfection. I don't know if you do either; but you're in for a sad awakening if you do.

Oh for God's sake, this is pissing me off...Are fans not allowed to be upset? Disappointed? Yes, a few people are going a little too far, but for the most part I think it's been a measured reponse. After his four games, Rodney will be welcomed back with open arms. If he apologizes, every Pats fan will forgive him. But God forbid people show a little frustration at this news.

You can only go off the info we have so far. If this turns out to be wrong, I'll gladly come back and admit I was completely wrong.
