2017 NFL Combine Thread

Just occurred to me that the interviews at the combine might be interesting vis a vis a Garropolo trade if they start interviewing players expected to go higher in the draft. Can't imagine BB would be that obvious but it might give us a hint.

Don't they usually invite a couple of top 10 players for visits/iviews anyway ? If nothing else to keep an updated catalog of potential opponent chess pieces and potential archetypes for future comparisons.

One, maybe two. I can't think of too many off the top of my head.

Had a quick look. There wasn't anyone last year. In '15 they met with Danny Shelton, Marcus Peters and Shaq Thompson. In 2014, Aaron Donald and Odell Beckham were on the list. Of all those, only Danny Shelton was projected to go high at the time of the combine.

Makes sense if you only have so many visits to not waste them on too many unrealistic targets.. thanks for looking it up..

When is the TV coverage of the Combine?

HEADS UP! It's on TODAY @ 1 pm eastern time on the NFL network.

Please disregard. I read my onscreen TV guide wrong. It's the 2016 Combine today. If I'm reading my guide correctly, 2017 Combine News Conferences are Wednesday on NFLN. The other stuff should be later in the week.

Sorry for the mistake. I feel like Warren Beatty at the Oscars. ;)

I like the combine and it gives us good information but i think some GMs and fans (though not really on here) care too much about it. In the end the game tape is what matters most and a good combine performance and bad one don't always tell you much.

I like when the Combine confirms what I see on tape. I try not to overhype a guy because of workouts, but sometimes it does make me go back and reevaluate the tape. More frequently, I use testing numbers as a cutoff: if a player can't hit basic benchmarks, I probably move on to other prospects. I should mention that I use pretty generous numbers; the workout has to be historically bad (like De'Runnya Wilson or Michael Sam) before I hold it as a strike against them.

I like watching the drills more than anything. How does the player move? How does he respond to coaching? What's the effort level? Body language? Etc.

Wise is for sure getting drafted in the mid rounds. He's one of maybe 4-5 true elephant ends in this draft, and all the rest are going in the top 100.

If I had a penny for every time a guy was "for sure getting drafted" and wasn't, I'd be a rich man.

So much can happen between now and the draft you just don't know..
As long distance pointed out, if you're not at the combine, then the odds are stacked against you to get drafted.. 15% chance.. Not good..

Wise will be @Combine .. and is already rising towards Day 2 - where Id guess he belongs (had a huge Shrine game)

Alvin Kamara: 214
Leonard Fournette: 240

EDIT: Love this article about Foreman. He's got that chip on his shoulder mentality for sure!
