Does 2014 and 2016 take away the sting of 2007 and 2011 ?

Mentioned this in another thread that was posted about this this past week. The only real sting from 2011 I had was losing to the Giants a second time. Truth is it was a miracle we were even in that game to begin with. They came close to winning and it sucked when they lost but I got over it quickly. By the next season it was an afterthought to me. With 2007 I wanted that win so bad. just based on the historical implications and the team that had been assembled. There was a lot of chemistry on that team and I wanted them to get a ring (Plus the FU tour from spygate). Then the way they lost was gut wrenching. I'm no longer angry about that season and seeing highlights or hearing someone bring it up doesnt make my blood boil. Its just a game I will never get over. Forever it will be there as the one that got away. I'll always be disappointed they didnt win 42.

I used to never be able to watch a play from the 07 Superbowl. After 2014, a lot of that pain went away. After this one, almost all the pain went away. Now, I don't even bother to change the channel if the Tyree catch is shown or talked about.

Only real regret left is Moss and Welker not getting a ring.

Well the Pats in 2007 are the most famous Super Bowl losers the league has ever had. Unfortunately.

What about 86 and 95?

It's not like the losses to the Giants were any different than the losses to Chicago and Green Bay

Ok, I'll give you missing the perfect season in 07 hurt. But honestly, I've had enough for a lifetime. If we get more, it's just icing on the cake.

I am no longer an angry Pats fan!
Actually 76 hurt more for me. Having it stolen is worse then being out played.

For me the sting has gone down with the resent SB wins. I can watch highlights without looking away.
No way will I watch those two SB again though.

After the two loses to the giants.. i was very bitter about tb12 legacy getting screwed. But now that he is the undisputed goat this is the way i look at it. When he won the first sb we were not the more talented team. Even belichick after the win thought 19-23 players on the 53 team roster needed to be upgraded. Even though the giants loses were heart breakers.. we didnt play well in either so i think a split would have been reasonable to expect as a fan. And in the two most recent ones given how they shook out.. another spilt is not unreasonable. Bottom line he could have won seven and that would have been awesome. But i do believe given how close every game was 5 is great. I dont feel like we have been screwed. We could have easily won one more or lost two more. Ill take the 5 with a smile and no complaints.

For me, absolutely! The sting is gone. Completely!!!

2007 destroyed me. I had to take Monday off work. I did not sleep well for a long time.

It actually made me realize I needed to NOT emotionally invest myself in something that 1. I have not control over, 2. Is a game in the end.

Up until SB 49, I would turn away and could not bring myself to see the Tyree catch every time they showed it.

After SB49, I could watch it.

As of now, it does not bother me in the slightest.

We are a blessed fan base. It will NOT be like this forever. And when BB and Brady leave, it may never be like this again. My dad never got to see a Pats SB.

Appreciate what we have had guys and gals.

2007 scarred me. It was brutal. Winning these last two has healed some of that.

But to honest I would love to see them make another run at 19-0.

Just to see that senile old bastard Shula swallow his dentures.

I wanted the win in 2007 but the team struggled late AND Brady suffered a high ankle sprain the week before the game. I had a very bad feeling going into the game. Wasn't that shocked.

I am sad that Junior Seau, Welker and Moss never got their rings.

2011 We were fine until Brady separated his shoulder in the 3rd quarter. I was able to deal with the loss

No.

42 will always depress me to no end.
46 will always piss me off to no end.

42 doesn't need to be explained.

Now I would be far less pissed off about 46 if it had been a loss to the 49ers (they would have been in the SB if not for multiple muffed punts) or anyone else. But to lose to the Giants again when the opportunity to avenge our worst defeat was literally right in our hands just sickens me. And the double loss just makes both defeats collectively worse than they are individually.

And the 10 year gap between titles just doesn't sit well with me either. Ignoring all other context and just for the sake of dates I would trade 39 for 42 and 49 for 46. 01,03,07,11,16. No big frustrating gaps between those wins.

I used to never be able to watch a play from the 07 Superbowl.

I know I'm spoiled, but I can't help it - I still can't watch that game. I do feel better about it after this latest huge comeback, but tonight on NFL network they had the Pats/Eagles SB and I was enjoying it. Once that was over they put on the 2007 SB... I had to switch to BBT.

I'm sorry but I just can't get myself to watch (again) immortality slip from our grasp... or should I say Tyree's helmet.

I know our team has achieved everything we could wish for and more, and yet I still pray that we can face Eli one more time and this time TB blows the Giants away. Then I'll have closure.

Again, yes - I AM SPOILED. I fully admit it.

Short of another season going apeshit on every opponent 50-0 style, a 19-0 ending with Eli manning giving the stoned goober look after an epic 87-0 horse whipping nothing will fully take the sting out of 42. Just like this last one cemented Brady and Bill as the GOAT the one thing left for this patriot era is to be officially crowned the greatest team ever. With one more win that WOULD have been the 07 pats and only getting that back can make seeing that game tolerable to me. Course telling Shula and Mecury Morris to pound sand would just be a sweet sweet sweet side perk.

As others have mentioned just getting to the game in 11 was an accomplishment and the only reason losing it hurts is we were so close and it was the horse shoe up their ass G men....again. That one I was over awhile ago.

Absolutely

When you are always playing in the final four you are going to have both big wins and big losses, there's no way around it. The Patriots have had two shots at making history and they achieved it this time. And personally I would rather have the fifth Lombardi for Brady and Belichick than I would the perfect season. I'm really happy for Brady in particular, I have never seen anyone who deserved it more.

I was also inconsolable after 2007 - but one thing to consider is that a team had already gone undefeated and probably will again in the future. I'm pretty sure no team will ever come back from 25 points down in the second half to win a SB ever again.

I went to the 2011 SB. Did not watch a single highlight package of the game and still haven't.

This thread finally inspired me to torture myself and watch the Manningham catch again. I literally have only saw once (in person) so could hardly even remember it besides it being towards the sidelines.

Always hear it mentioned in same breath as the Tyree catch, yet I didn't remember it being like that. Watching again, that is confirmed. That one was a pure brilliant throw/catch by both, much like the Julio Jones catch this SB.

This...is probably old news. But yeah. :p

I never thought I would get over 2007 until 14 happened. The feeling after they won in 2014 was better than 01.03, and 04 for me because I wanted #4 so bad. Every Superbowl has come down to the last possession for the Pats. Winning 5 of the 7 is incredible to me. They could have easily lost to the Rams, Carolina, Seattle, and Atlanta. I'll take 5-2 in 7 one possession games especially when the highlight of a season used to be just getting to see the Pats play on Monday night. My family got season tickets in 2001 and you couldn't ask for a better run. I never would have thought that I would see the Pats raise 4 banners live. I was hoping I could see them raise just one! I can't believe I'll be going to the blade in September to see the fifth Superbowl banner. Imagine being the Bills and losing 4 in a row!
