Patriots CB Dennard Avoids Having Probation Revoked, Has Jail Time Added

Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was in Nebraska on Thursday as he hoped to be granted a continuance, but instead it ended up being a case of "good news, bad news" for the veteran defensive back.

According to Lori Pilger of the Journal Star, the judge denied Dennard's lawyer's motion for a continuance, but fortunately the motion to have his probation revoked was denied as well.  Instead, Pilger reports the judge extended his probation a year, and also added 100 hours of community service, while adding a no-alcohol condition.

The bad news is, Dennard had additional jail time added, with Pilger reporting the judge added 30 days to his jail sentence, and he now has to report to jail March 1, 2014 for a 60-day sentence or 38 days with good time. She notes, however, because Dennard has already served 3 days, this new sentence means he will have to serve 35 days with good time.

So the good news is, New England will have him for the foreseeable future and he'll get to spend the holidays with his family.  But the bad news is, it appears he wasn't able to avoid doing additional jail time.

Ultimately it's a favorable outcome for Dennard, whom the judge could have acted much harsher upon but instead extended his probation. However, according to Pilger, Dennard's been warned by the judge, who told him before he left the courtroom, "I want you to know this is your last chance."
