Ian's Daily Blog - It appears that things are looking good for Patriots wide receiver Brandon Tate, who had his rookie season cut short after being placed on injured reserve this past season with a knee injury.Tate, who reportedly*tore his ACL and MCL on a punt return during his senior season in North Carolina, appeared in two games this [...]

That sounds like good news to me. Hopefully he and WWII can get in sync with Brady over the off season and make some positive on field contributions next year.

For anyone who hasn't clicked on that, there's also a good video I posted of Tate from the report that ran right after he suffered his knee injury in college. Amazing how much he meant to the University - they were pretty upset he got hurt.

Right now, Tate is just another one of those guys on NEs roster who every off season is expected to come off IR and be the answer: Wheatley, McKenzie, Tate, ...

I still hope NE plans to be ultra aggressive in acquiring draft pick/FA options at WR and KR.

This is good news. Tate did show some good ability for the very short time that he played last year. This may make drafting a WR less important but we still should grab one in the 2nd if there is one that is good enough.

So far, this does not look like a great WR class. It seems to be a much better TE class.

Still it is tough to depend on him to be ready to make an immediate impact next season. We need to aquire another WR that we can depend on to make an immediate impact, most likely through FA.

So, as some of us here speculated, he did NOT tear his ACL a second time. That's very good news.

Yeah he was a hell of a player for them, probably their most explosive player.

This. While it is good that Tate is making a recovery from knee injury, we shouldn't depend on him being any more than a fourth or fifth option next season. Anything more out of him will be a pleasant suprise. I'm on the Antonio Bryant bandwagon when it comes to free agent WRs myself. But I wouldn't mind drafting a Golden Tate either.

Agree 100%. When Bryant can get on the same page with a Qb, he can flat out play and be productive.

I'm a big ND fan...Would love to see Tate here. Got the sneaking supicion he may be going to KC...

I love Bryant myself, another option for me would be Malcolm Floyd.

Its good news but it hard to get excited after the ....

    Chad Jackson
    Bethel Johnson
    PK Sam
    Bam Childress
    Terrence Nunn...ect:

Excitement over the past few years has been for naught...this team has not drafted well at the wide receiver position since Deion Branch and David Givens came aboard years ago - its been a dead draft involving WRs for quite awhile. - Will Tate end all the misery and poor selections of draftees at this position?...you better hope it is.

Try to be fair though. PK Sam was a 4th round pick (I think?) and was considered a solid value at the time. He is tearing it up for the Argos though. Were Childress and Nunn even drafted? These are hardly disasters.

CJack and Bethel were 2nd round busts, but you have to consider the circumstances. Bethel was drafted in part for his return skills and people forget he was huge in this area. When he did get on the field as a WR, he did make some big plays but just couldn't be consistent enough to get many meaningful snaps. It happens.

CJack is still a mystery. Something is just wired wrong in his head. All the talent in the world, was productive in college and he isn't a dope, so I'm not sure what red flag should have stopped the Pats from drafting him.

So I hesitate to flog Belichick for WR drafting just yet. Edelman looks like a keeper and Tate's story is far from finished (he won't turn 23 until October). The Pats are in a transition time at WR and the draft will be a big part of that.

I think people look back far too harshly on Bethel. He really played a role on the 2003/2004 teams, both special teams and as a burner. As a 5th wideout, he was basically as productive as our #3 was this year.

If a 2nd round pick contributes on ST and as a offensive skill player in two championship seasons - I'll take it. I have no regrets about Bethel.

Also, when it comes to drafting wideouts, people forget we also got Branch in round 2 and Givens in round 7. There's a type of wide receiver that is higher risk (albeit higher reward). Bethel & Jackson both fit that type.

I want us to draft guys like Mardy Gilyard or Golden Tate who could be just as likely to be the next Desean Jackson or Santonio Holmes or Deion Branch than the next Chad Jackson. We need to draft quick-twitch wideouts who can run routes and understand this offense.

Yay! Let's draft a couple tight ends ... again. :bricks:

We WILL be drafting a TE this season as there is no doubt in my mind Watson is a goner,Watson has played his last down in NE IMO.

Unless a FA TE on the cheap comes about
