Mayo is coming off a season ending pectoral injury but we know he's capable of having a huge year.

Collins has a lot of hype after his performance late last year. But he was running on fresh legs and it was only a couple games.

Hightower is moving to his more natural MLB spot now that Spikes is gone. Won't be forced to drop into coverage as much now.

Mayo. He's the Patriots best Linebacker and I'm looking forward to having him prove it (again) to the Chicken Littles.

All three have potential/skill. I'll go with Hightower. But I hope all three are heavy contributors.

Mayo is going to kill it this year and remind the players why he was on the top 100 last year.

I think they will all play at an extremely high level. I was much more impressed with Hightower his rookie year than 2013. Without Mayo out there, he was forced to play out of position and he really over thought things last year and it showed that he was taking too much on his shoulders. By the end of the season he really was going in the right direction. I think the return of Mayo and emergence of Collins, will do wonders for Hightower. Not to mention his return to a more natural position.

For that reason, I think Hightower will open a lot of eyes next year and become a Pro-Bowl quality player. He has put it all together now he only has to worry about playing his own game.

To be honest I don't care for Hightower at all. I apologize to all with high hopes for him. I recently watched highlights of many LBs including him. He was so unimpressive I don't know where to start. He was slow and showed no burst. Considering his 270+ lbs I thought he would make some bone rattling or heavy tackles at least. He showed NOTHING but drag down tackles. No instant stops where the ball carrier's legs turned to shoe strings on contact much less jarring hits and knocking anybody backwards.on top of that he showed no intensity or hair on fire play. Needless to say he made no tackles where he flashed on the scene or exploding into the ball carrier. No knifing through blockers or discarding blockers. I saw one blitz where he knocked the RB out of the way completely. I saw more jarring hits and rocking RBs backwards by much smaller LBs like David. Last couple seasons I saw broadcasters on countless occasions call him out for failing to show any burst when the ball carrier crossed his face or ordinary TEs leaving him in his dust. I used to hope it was a young player unsure of hiself. But I see now he is just ordinary to be polite. I didn't see nothing from him compared to the other LBs. Unless he somehow gets faster and more explosive and intense, he won't break out and his most loyal fans will just make more excuses while the rest of fans Will be ready for us to acquire a new LB we hope is that impact player Hightower was supposed to be. Before anybody flames me go watch his highlights featuring slow drag down tackles and compare to Willis/Bowman/David and other stasndouts or even Ogletree /kendricks. You will see Hightower looks pedestrian. What really surprised me is even though he doesn't make explosive hits,I expected heavy jarring tackling with his 270+ behind his tackles.

I do not think he will have the best season of any LB but I do think he is going to be surprisingly productive this season – the player I am talking about is Steve Beauharnais. I think that he can give us some of what Brandon Spikes gave us as a hard-hitting middle LB against the run.

Jamie Collins. Mayo will be his usual self and not make any big plays (see, SB46), just rack up a bunch of tackles. And Hightower hopefully won't look lost. We're still waiting to see if he's not a total bust.

Jerod Mayo had 3 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 3 pass defenses, and 3 run stuffs for (14) yards in 2012. He makes impact plays.

Ivan dude(being friendly no pun intended) Everybody knows by now I want patriot players dominate! Not just play well, but savage our opponents! I hope Easley Buchanan Moore,Collins are terrorizing passrush forces and Jones takes another stride. I want Dobson and the hard working Thompkins (especially kenbrell)to step up in Hightower want us to field our most dominant OLineman I think Halapio can be a great center and Fleming/Cannon compete to be our athletic powerful RG. Most of all I want to acquire the vastly underrated destructive Carl Nicks. I don't want to hope we can pull off a Superbowl run, I want to know we will savagely dominate every team on route to a Superbowl trophy. I was hoping Hightower was as explosive as elite LBs like Willis/Bowman but packaged in his 270lb body. However its just not the case. From the time he played as a rookie broadcasters called him out as ball carriers crossed his face like he was in quicksand saying Hightower needs to be more explosive than that in the NFL. And " trouble with Hightower he is going to lose in an all out sprint shadowing a TE or RB." I hoped it was result of just a young player being unsure or shy. And many college reports said he needs to step up the intensity.

I watched every highlight I could find on him especially His NFL stuff while watching highlights of established LBs like Bowman/Washington/Smith/David/Wagner/Kuechly/Mosley/Alonzo/Ellerbe/Ogletree/Kendricks.The impact/hits/flashing on scene for jarring hits and pass breakups/Closing burst/ball carriers legs turning to rubber on contact/knifing through blockers/intensityu I saw those guys doing was night and day compared to Hightowers pedestrian burst and drag down tackles. And that's what it seemed like, pedestrian compared to them dudes, kind of like comparing a non athlete to some of them players. I saw one play he tossed a RB out of way on a b!it's that impressed. I didn't want to see that but he was nothing compared to them guys. Just watch YouTube and various NFL highlights sights all over the net of players best highlights and particular games. I watched them 5 hours straight.

On a more positive note I like Beauharnais! He makes some nice hits and plays faster than his 4.8. I'm not saying David fast but a little quicker than timed and shows some good closing burst and intensity. And looks at least competent in coverage and good instincts, very good instincts! Like all the top LBs that weigh about 240, he plays stronger than his size suggests. He could start by end of season. I would bet he has better career than manti teo.

If Buchanan reaches his full potential, Collins makes jump to elite status,Beauharnais becomes a good LB, Dobson breaks out and reaches his ceiling,Logan Ryan steps up as an elite #2 Corner, Harmon becomes an established SS,and Kenbrells very hard work blossoms to fruition, and even Boyce can earn some snaps in the slot and make some big plays out of the slot, our 2013 draft class could become one of best draft classes ever. Collins will break out and his stats will standout because I think he does a lot of blitzing this year. Buchanan has as much raw passrush talent as many top pass rushers and early draft picks. Dobson at 6'3 and growing into his frame has all the raw ability a WR can ask for. 4.37 speed/flexibility/quickness and a second long gear( notice how he pulled away from ike taylor and other DB on longTD).Ryan had 5 ints in limited time and has shown Richard Sherman ball skills except he is 6'0 not 6'3. And has real shot of being at least a top flight #2 corner. I believe Beauharnais will be a pleasant surprise. Harmon is 6'1 and filling out his frame. He has some CB coverage skills and experience. Awesome for a SS in this increasingly pass happy league. His 4.50 speed has been knocked as a corner but phenomenal for a SS. He is a reliable tackler with some thump that will get heavier as he grows into his frame. He is 6'1 and better equipped to match up with TEs than Byrd's and Wards are. I think he settles in as a 6'1 211lb standout SS. Maybe not pro bowler but a standout. Kenbrell my personal favorite. Showed good snatch and go ability and burst out of breaks as rookie. I wish him well on his personal goals of being a better more explosive overall athlete he is working really hard for. And hope he becomes at least a 1000 yard WR. Since this is about LBs, I really like Beauharnais. I think he will be very good 3 down LB. Like I said he is competent in coverage. Watching him play I would guess he runs a flat 4.70. Good enough! I like the mayo/Beauharnais/Collins/ triad! Beauharnais may not be a pro bowler but will be a much respected lb by offenses.

Simple. Mayo. Best LB on this team the moment he came in. He's the QB on defense, serviceable vs. TE, can shut down any RB out if the backfield, and always makes the smart play. And last year he showed some ability to rush the QB up the middle.

If 100% Mayo is a pro bowl LB again.

Don't think I'm putting any other LBs down though. I think Collins could develop into a monster this season and beyond and I think Hightower will have a bounce back year as he will be playing in a better suited position (Spikes old role) for himself. Frankly I see the LB corps Top 5 in the league along with a Top 3 secondary as well.

Anyway, Mayo is the best. No doubt. Collins and Hightower have bright futures to be monsters

@PatFanCraig all the LBs you compared Hightower to are very different. Once mayo went down last season, Hightower was thrust out of place and regressed some from his promising rookie campaign. As I said, donta had a great rookie year and regressed a little from injuries last year.

With 3 LBs who are all different, Hightower will be able to play Spikes old role as the run stopping thumper and maybe some pass rush too. This means he won't be in the open field as often his helps him a ton. Collins will be the coverage LB and mayo will be back to his do it all self.

This is a passing league. Teams pass on first/second down all the time. Spikes was a huge liability in coverage at mlb and Hightower is no better in coverage. Hightowers issues were more than playing outside. His issues were lack of speed/burst/agility/intensity. At least Spikes was a heavy thumping tackler even though he wasnt explosive enough to make jarring explosive hits like Willis/David. But at leadt he made heavy tackles. Hightower is a drag down tackler. That was the biggest surprise, that he didn't make at least thumping heavy tackles. Just watch the highlights. The position thing is an excuse because we don't want a first round draft pick to be a bust. The LBs I listed had more speed/ability and had nothing to do with weak side or middle. Hightower lacks explosion/agility to be a good passrusher. Collins will be our best blitzing LB. Mayo should return to form while Beauharnais exceeds all expectations and completes our dominant LB triad. He shows much more burst/agility/closing speed/coverage range than Hightower. He can also explode into his tackle.

Hightower is far from perfect in coverage. But if you actually watched all 22 tape yoy would see that he is much, much better than Spikes in coverage

No he isn't. Maybe a little better but still a liability. Beauharnais will surprise so many people. Maybe not a pro bowler but offenses will respect him as a better LB.
