What Football Phrase Annoys You The Most?

The worst one this yr,

"Blueprint"

During the Ravens Monday Night game: "Is tonight the night?" "Tonight's the night!"

He can take it to the house! He can bring it! And Len Berman after everyone knew he scored: AND HE COULD... GO... ALL... THE WAY!

They're an outstanding football team in all three phases of the game.

"The New York 'football' Giants" Just heard it on ESPN

You stole mine. I'm glad I read the other posts. :)

Also, "if they had went for the first down". I can't believe how many former players say "have went" when they should have said "have gone". Drives me NUTS!

"You MUST establish the run"

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Pats set the NFL scoring record by establishing Brady --> Moss/Welker/Stallworth/Gaffney/Watson.

Not that I think Maroney/Morris did not contribute, it's (and was, for Morris) great to have those guys with Faulk in the backfield.

"Interception, colts are going to the superbowl"-afcg last year

the worst words ive ever heard in sports

That New York Football Giants...yeah as opposed to the New York Baseball Giants that haven't played there since the 50's. Thanks for the clarification.

"Pin their ears back and get after the passer"

The first 25 times I heard an analyst say this I didn't mind, the ensuing 975 times have annoyed the he_l out of me.

Already been mentioned but "he plays well in space". Especially when it is said by some tool that knows nothing about football.

"Johnson's out with a knee."

Did they have a nice time? What did the knee have for dinner?

Or the Al Michaels favorite: "Johnson has a knee."

Any version of anyone saying that Tony Dungy is a respectable human being or a good football coach.

Speaking of Johnson, Frank Caliendo of Frank TV told a good joke on Fox pregame Sunday last week. "Thank god we are using first names when talking about our analysts. Imagine if we were using last names- instead of saying Terry, Howie and Jim, we would be saying 'we will be back with Bradshaws Long Johnson'. :D

"The Patriots can't run the football efectively".

They average over one hundred yards per game. Is that bad?

"I see a chipiness from the Patriots lately that I think will cost them in the playoffs"

Finnesse and execute.

Finnesse like it is a bad thing. So a player or a team can run faster, jump higher, throw better and move better etc... Isn't that the whole point?

Patriots are too one dimensional!
We are going to "Lay the Wood"
Tom Brady is a system quarterback!

"Its hard to beat a team 3 times in one year"

Like a team that is 0-2 should be favored just because they are "due"

Having said that I do think the Giants will beat the Cowboys.

"X team has just given the rest of the league a clear cut BLUEPRINT for beating Y team." enev though X team has lost to Y team, the mere fact that they wre competitive means they've created a BLUEPRINT.

"Any given Sunday" - the battle cry of the loser
