Texans trade up to take Tate
Patriots receive:
» Second-round pick (No. 62):
Brandon Spikes
» Fifth-round pick (No. 150
Texans receive:
» Second-round pick (No. 58):
Ben Tate
Analysis: Bill Belichick is at it again. This is the fourth trade-down for the Patriots, who have moved up just once in this draft. They pick up a pick in the fifth round, the one round they didn't have a choice in at the moment. Tate fills the biggest need for the Texans, who had just two other backs rated ahead of him: C.J. Spiller and Ryan Mathews. They had a shot at Toby Gerhart, but traded down with the Vikings, who snatched up the Stanford back.
Cardinals move up 11 spots to get linebacker
Cardinals receive:
» Second-round pick (No. 47):
Daryl Washington
Patriots receive:
» Second-round pick (No. 58):
Traded to Texans
» Third-round pick (No. 89)
EDIT: this 89th pick was traded to carolina for a 2011 second! (love the pats)
Analysis: The Cardinals moved up to get one of the fastest linebackers in the draft in Daryl Washington, who the team hopes can step in immediately in Karlos Dansby's old spot in the lineup.
Raiders trade down again as Pats get tight end
Patriots receive:
» Second-round pick (No. 42):
Rob Gronkowski
Raiders receive:
» Second-round pick (No. 44):
Lamarr Houston
» Sixth-round pick (No. 190)
Analysis: After losing tight end Ben Watson in free agency, the Patriots filled that hole with Rob Gronkowski, a player who missed the entire 2009 season after having back surgery. The Raiders moved down twice between picks No. 39 and 42 and accumulated two more selections later in the draft. In addition, Oakland took Lamarr Houston, a hulking defender to plug into the interior of the defensive line
Cowboys get their man
Cowboys receive:
» First-round pick (No. 24): Dez Bryant
» Fourth-round pick (No. 119)
Patriots receive:
» First-round pick (No. 27):
Devin McCourty
»
Third-round pick (No. 90)
Broncos make push to get receiver
Broncos receive:
» First-round pick (No. 22):
Demaryius Thomas
Patriots receive:
» First-round pick (No. 24):
Traded to Cowboys
»
Fourth-round pick (No. 113)
Analysis: The Broncos did a pretty good sell job in the weeks leading up to the draft by hosting WR Dez Bryant for several days at their facility and talking openly -- and gushingly -- about him. All along, however, they were targeting Thomas, and were able to trade back, pick up two additional third-rounders and still get the man they hope can replace Brandon Marshall. Well played, Josh McDaniels. Well played.
