As we move inexorably toward a (likely) unsatisfactory resolution to the whole 'ParityGate' nonsense (you might know it as Deflategate) - I thought it might be an idea to take a step back from things to gain some perspective.
As mentioned before, the NFL has (wisely) modeled itself on a parity model - one where (theoretically) all 32 teams should have aspirations of a Superbowl in their not-too-distant future.
I need only look at how I, personally, view other sports to see the wisdom in this approach - I generally tire of watching the same teams enjoy success for extended periods in the last few decades - the Miami Heat, the LA Lakers, Vancouver Canucks....etc etc
The Patriots have been defying ParityGravity for the last 14 years or so - you will know the effect this has had on the fanbases of other teams whenever you have to deal with them - they are sick and tired of Brady and Belichick and the almost guaranteed 11+ wins they bring each year.
I don't envy anyone being a fan of the hapless Jets, Bills or Dolphins - they are terminally stuck in a groundhog division where the Patriots dominate year in, year out - if they played in another division - its likely they would have seen the playoffs numerous times each over the last 14 years.
From a business point of view - which is undoubtedly the only view the 32 owners really care about - the Patriots are bad news. They have continuously fought off raids on their coaching staff, free agency taking their best players (with the help of tampering if required), tough schedules and picking at the back end of every draft....and still, remorselessly (much like the Borg of Star Trek fame) they just keep coming....keep pumping out the wins, the playoff appearances....the SB wins.
We, as fans of the Patriots, should be grateful for a team that has excelled despite continual handicapping - for being able to watch the greatest QB and HC the NFL has ever seen to work on Sundays - and to do it together.
Of course, I am disappointed the NFL chose not only to try and enforce parity - but to do it in such a underhanded and devious manner - to try and defame two of the greatest individuals to ever impact the sport with two pseudo scandals that appeal those who have been lobotomized by jealousy and envy.
Do yourselves a favor and don't subject yourselves to the likes of NFL Network, to ESPN, the Boston based media trolls - just think back and enjoy everything this team has achieved over the last decade and a half.
