Adalius Thomas is back, obviously. The new linebacker for the Patriots had a huge impact last week and is having another great game this week. The interception return for a touchdown was set up by the previous third-and-one. NE stuffed the Chargers, so on this third-and-one, despite being 24-for-25 last season on such yardage, SD felt they needed to throw, and the result was a killer INT for TD.

The Chargers are getting their act together. The Pats offense is slowed, they got to Brady on a sack and if it wasn't for that late hit, they probably would have forced two straight punts. The Chargers need a score here.

The Chargers were shut out in the first half last week against the Bears, and they can't seem to get in sync this week, either. Granted, these are two of the better defenses in the league, but San Diego has one of the best offenses in the league. They have to be disappointed the with the slow start two weeks in a row.

The Chargers hurt themselves on that drive, something that happened last year during the playoff game. The blow to the head on Brady kept the drive alive, and it resulted in more points for the Pats. The Chargers D is looking much better, but they are in a pretty big hole. Meanwhile, 25 miles north of foxboro, Schilling and Clemens are putting on a show. Bottom of the fourth, 1-0 red sox, with the teams combining for three hits so far I believe.

The early answer as to whether this week's events surrounding the Patriots illegally filming the Jets defensive coordinator would distract the Patriots is -- no. Perhaps the Pats are motivated to show that they are the ones making the plays, not the coaches. Whatever the case, the first 15 minutes was total domination for the Patriots.

Give the Chargers credit for going to LT rather than throwing the ball. They know it is the first quarter and they are showing patience. They think they can attack the Patriots up the middle. Thumbs down to NBC for ingoring who the injured Patriot was (Thomas) for a while.
It Starts With The O-Line - Pats 14, SD 0 09/16/07
The Patriots have dominated offensively in the first quarter, and again it starts with the O-Line. When the Chargers bring four rushers, they are not getting any pressure. On the TD, they brought five, and Moss was open in a seam. Wes Welker is almost as valuable an addition as Moss. His ability to get open in the middle of the field is invaluable. The Chargers need to answer in a hurry.

The Patriots have had the ball for 10 plays and thrown 10 passes on offense. Let's see if they get Laurence Maroney involved here on their third drive.
