I did a scan and didn't see a thread on this...

Jeff Howe of NESN (Quickly rising as toward being my fave Pats reporter) put out the idea that Belichick might consider bringing Stallworth back.

Howe got Donte on the phone and he said he'd "100%" come back to the Patriots.

I'd actually be quite interested in seeing Donte in camp and see if he can push the likes of Tate and Price. Good guy, good player and unfortunate incident well in rear-view mirror. I follow him on twitter and he certainly comes off as a high-character dude.

    What say you?

do we really want to keep perpetuating the finesse pass happy offense?

    #24 Jersey

Baltimore had Stallworth along with Housh and Boldin. I didn't see them operating a finesse pass happy offense. Granted, though, that could be because Flacco really isn't a good quarterback. But still, they found ways to run the ball. If we can draft a physical, north-south RB to go along with BJGE and Woodhead, I don't see why we can't be more multi-dimensional. I was open to the idea of bringing Stallworth back last year and still am.

    Disable Jersey

He had 2 catches in 8 games last year. He actually had more carries than receptions. Bringing him in without guaranteed money is fine, but I'd say that about pretty much any player.

I guess my concern is the commitment to the run. the pats could get whoever they want but i feel if they get topnotch receivers they will be too tempted to want to pass more than run. they need to legitimately commit to the run and get smash mouth. I think they need to upgrade the o-line as a top priority.

That's the great thing about Stallworth. He's very good, can run the deep and intermediate routes, but isn't superstar grade and is therefore an excellent team-first candidate. Good blocker too, if I recall correctly.

i wouldn't mind them bringing him in, but they need to make o-line and d-line a top priority. early pats teams were known for controlling the line of scrimmage.

If I remember rightly, they were hardly using him the last time around, and Gaffney took all his minutes.

I'd go with tate before him, so would he have a roster spot?

He wouldn't take Price/Welker/Edelman (KR)/Branch's spot. Only Tate.

He hardly got any playing time in Baltimore.....saw his playing time dimish significantly when he was here. No, no, no! Why go down that road again?

I agree totally, this team has to stop relying on Tom Brady the Super Star QB and go back to TB the game manager.

By the end of the season he spent with the Pats, Stallworth was riding the bench and not a part of the offense. I don't see him being brought back.

Yea, and that was 4 years ago.

    No thanks.

I really want the Pats to end the era of 30+ skill position offensive players that didn't recently have time with the team. Didn't work with Taylor, limited results with Morris, didn't work with Holt Galloway or Givens (but it did with Branch / Moss). The upside with Stallworth is extremely limited, and at this point I'm not confident he's a better option than Taylor Price or Brandon Tate.

Lightly heralded Jabar Gaffney was a better receiver than FA star Donte was in the 2007 power offense...why would he be better now?

Your off your rocker if you want him back

That's exactly as I remember it. I felt that Brady trusted him less and less as the season wore on.

    I don't think he'll be back.

Why not ?. Was gaffney who played 2 yr with brady got more reps sure but also because maybe the FO decided to resign Moss and transition from him.

I like him he is a bigger tate but has RB skills with ball in his hands. He never *****ed being the 3rd /4th option in his offence. He has speed and when team play how the jets played us or even the jets next year he will bring the matchup that will prevent the safeties from crowding as he can sure run.

also even deion was being his injured self and i hate leaving brady out there with no real outside experienced guys.tate showed this alot when certain coverages where played he looked lost. He will improve with another offseason to review his own tape and learn but stallworth will not hurt.

He didn't run his routes correctly then.

Experience doing things incorrectly has no positive value.

Which made it all the more curious why Brady looked Stallworth's way on the 4th-and-18 play.

We need a stronger line and a stronger running game
to keep Tom healthy ... a one time deep threat is the last thing we need.
