It does seem kind of odd; I would think for any new roster players (especially rookies) it would be rather beneficial. Perhaps they have one set of training films, used to recognize opposing defenses or offenses - and another specific to the playbook?

Or perhaps the feeling is that they've been studying film and the playbook long enough this off season that there is little to gain from more more of the same, and that given how long of a grind it can be from late July to early February that it would be much more beneficial to let the batteries recharge and avoid mental fatigue and burnout?
