We all know that Dan Shaughnessy is no sports reporter. I picture his creative process going something like this:
"Dan, does this remind you of anything floating around in the back of your mind?"
"I'm glad you asked, Dan! Because my mind is very interesting to me."
"To me too, Dan! And SO much easier to access than outside sources."
"Indeed, Dan! Though I like to imagine the inside of other people's minds too, for a change of pace."
"That is a good pastime, Dan. By the way, the readers are ignoring us."
"What a bore, Dan. Is it time to say something transparently provocative to make them fulminate about us again?"
"Good idea, Dan! I'm glad we thought of it."
That said, I think he totally nailed Belichick's attitude toward the media after this game:

It’s a little like the scene in “Casablanca” when Peter Lorre’s Ugarte asks Humphrey Bogart’s Rick, “You despise me, don’t you?’’ and then hears Bogey snap back with, “If I gave you any thought I probably would.’’
