According to Reiss, Seely's move to Cleveland was to take the Asst. Head Coaching / Special Teams "Coordinator" position.

Anyone else find it interesting that people on the BB staff continue to leave to be with Mangini? First Daboll and now Seely. One would think that after the way he left the Pats and then with the camera controversy, he'd be anathema.

Wasn't Daboll already with M*****i in New York (left because he wasn't given a promotion here)?

I know Daboll left in 07 because he wanted to be the QB coach and Belichick said no, I find it interesting with Seely, even though he is from the tickle me pete era.. See ya Brad, did nice job developing Ghost, but dont know why he would go with Mangini other than its a promotion for a asst head coach.. Maybee the stories that Mangini was used in the spy gate thing, and Tannenbum is the real heal?? who knows..

That was what I was referring to. Daboll left the Pats to be with Mangini in New York. And now Seely is leaving to be with Mangini in Cleveland.

I still think Belichick and Seely just decided to move on without each other. After all these years, suddenly Seattle asks to talk to him. Then he goes to Cleveland. And befire he signs with Cleveland, we sign Scott O'Brien. Too much coincidence for me.

There was obviously a bit of bad feeling then (not being appreciated as he thought he should be) but nothing like what developed after "Videogate". It makes the RAC/Seely hires more surprising.

just goes to show that just because BB and mangini are at crossheads the other coaches are as well. Maybe some of them like mangini better than BB spygate aside.

its all about the benjamins...........mangini is getting the browns F.O. to buy some friends........seeley is probably getting twice as much money there

outside of ghost, I have not been impressed with the pats special teams in the past couple of years anyway

I tend to believe it's a factor of money and upward mobility. When the coaching staff is well-assembled, it is probably fairly difficult to climb the ladder. Belichick's staff is typically the paradigm of a solid coaching staff. Nevertheless, I have to figure with internal promotions that egos get bruised prompting personnel to leave.

It may also be that Seely hit his promotion ceiling with Belichick and realized the application of the Peter Principle in New England equates to a lower position and pay than it would with Mangini where the sky is indeed the limit. At least until Mangini is drop-kicked out of his current job.

Belichick was probably po'd that he went and interviewed with Seattle so he told him "If you go, I won't hold a spot for you". Then by the time he interviewed his job had already been filled by O'Brien. So his only choice at that point was to go with Fredo in Cleveland. I'm speculating of course.

Why would Belichick be upset if Seely interviewed with Seattle? Seely wasn't under contract any longer so he was free to interview with whomever he wished.

I thought I read that Seattle asked permission to speak to Seely. If he was not under contract. Why would they have to ask for permission?

That was my understanding as well. However, Reiss is the one who stated that Seely's contract had expired.

I think as someone else pointed out up thread, there's too much coincidence here. He was politely shown the door. Ghost is a nice kicker, but outside of several plays in the 2001 AFC title game and Bethel Johnson's kick return in the 2003 regular season Colts game, our kick return and coverage has been average to bad during his very long tenure. This is no loss at all.

You're forgetting Ellis's (and Willie Andrews') kick returns for TDs. In fact, kick returning was great in 2007 -- although it didn't happen that much! (I agree about coverage, on the other hand.)

Daboll left before all of the camera stuff.

No where did I say otherwise. The HE refers to Mangini when I said "with the way he left and then the camera controversy".

I understand that Daboll went with him, but Mangini left before Daboll and Mangini went out of his way to burn bridges behind him with his actions.
