Report (Unconfirmed) - Patriots sign Brandon Browner

Depends on how much guaranteed... But, yes, seems more than you would expect, especially since he missed lots of games due to PEDs and stuff like that.. I'd thought a "prove-it deal" would be the case...

We are getting low on $$$ and we still have to sign our 2014 draft picks, get a DE, shore up the OL, and of course get a decent WR (a #1).

Not that low on money yet. Cutting Wilfork will account for Revis's cap hit plus an extra million. Tommy Kelly just took a pay cut, and I doubt Browner's contract will carry a year one cap hit of more than 4-5 million.

First off, Browner will not be paid for the first 8 games this season. Second, 17M seems like alot regardless.

Getting an experience move TE is much more important than adding a 5th WR.
I wonder if Bill is working the phone to Gonzalez on a one year this is the best Quarterback you'll ever play with and look at the D I'm building pitch?

Wasn't PED's it was pot

I doubt when we get a look at the actual contract it will be as simple as 3 years 17m. That probably includes plenty of incentives and escalators.

hopefully the days of me screaming at the tv "look for the ******* football" are over.

The suspension is for 4 games, not 8 (thankfully).

Prior to the POT suspension, it was PEDs.

Browner was suspended for four games in 2012 for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy for using a prescription drug.

Following the Seahawks' blueprint, the Patriots now boast the best press-man cornerback of the past decade in Revis and the league's most physically intimidating press specialist in Browner.

What's more, they now have plenty of depth for nickel and dime packages in Alfonzo Dennard, Kyle Arrington and Logan Ryan.

It will be interesting to see which version of Browner shows up on Bill Belichick's doorstep. A big-play machine as a Pro Bowl selection in 2011, Browner struggled last season and was outshined by first-time starter Byron Maxwell.

While true, he is also docked pay for the 4 games after returning from suspension, so what he said was correct.

I'm a bit concerned about the contract, thought it would be closer to a 3-4 mil/yr deal at most...

Probably why the agent kept giving everyone the runaround.

Hmmmm.

I would think Petey up in Seattle has done the same and I would think we are 1/2 teams that would be worth it.

Certainly the best QB situation by miles

Just fans downplaying this one big time as well. Love it

I'm gonna' give Hitman Harris another 15 minutes to go full ****** before I bring up JI to check it out.

Any chance Browner plays safety or definitely a CB?

3-4/year would have been excellent, but it would have been a huge bargain. If they're moving him to SS, they paid market rate for an upper-tier SS. Considering that most strong safeties are bad in coverage but make up for it with physicality, Browner should be worth a major premium, if anything. He hits as hard as anyone and covers well enough to make pro bowls as a CB. That's an extremely rare skillset, and the Pats didn't have to pay a premium for it.

If he's playing CB, then that's a bit below market rate for a guy with his qualifications.

A lot more money than I was expecting but oh well. Now we just need one of Allen/Peppers/Philips.
