Report: Josh McDaniels Plans To Leave Patriots, Pursue Head-Coaching Job In 2017

“Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will pursue head-coaching opportunities in 2017, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, and is virtually certain to be moving on from New England after this season,” La Canfora wrote Sunday. “After years of hedging his bets and giving strong indications he was most likely to stay with Bill Belichick, McDaniels is prepared to move on if the right opportunity presents itself.

Well, let's hope he doesn't get caught taping another team when he's not supposed to (lest we forget).

I would think that maybe the Bears, Jaguars, Bills, Colts, , Detroit, 49ers, Redskins, Bengals, or Bucs end up wanting him.

Jaguars, Colts, Detroit, and Bengals have guys that can play QB.

Wasn't he the one who turned it in when nobody had proof they did it?

Josh should be ready to succeed. He might be better off at a place with a proven GM. The Jaguars have a number of good young players.

He needs to finish this season without getting distracted.

I understand this. Several teams are likely thinking of firing their HCs early. Knowing Josh would be available they may/should delay firing & promoting from within.
Perhaps Matt Patricia is the heir apparent, if there is one at this early stage.
Losing both would be a real bummer.

Did he just say that he would like to coach for BB for as long as he'd have him?

Hopefully he'll want to take Garappolo with him and offer a king's ransom for him.

BTW- This is on the SAME day that the Herald has a story where Josh is quoted as saying he has the best job in the league, and how happy he is WHERE he is.

Sometimes I think that there is some kind of low level of conspiracy between these so called "insiders" with their so called "sources", and the radio/TV media types. One comes out with a report like La Canfora's, and the radio/TV types will take it as fact and use it for story lines the rest of the season.

Besides, did you REALLY need "inside sources" to opine that Josh McDaniels is going to be one of the hottest HC'ing prospects at the end of the year?????

No surprise at all, he'll be missed though. Tremendous coordinator despite some of the **** he has taken from the fan base.

Well, that's not exactly a surprise.

That said, he'd better $#*%^#%^ keep his head in the game, especially in playoff time.
Yeah, didn't he fly out to visit the Broncos in between playoff games that year?

As expected.

Actually in this regard I feel like we are playing with house money since he was a strong candidate in the past 2 off seasons. Opportunities were there, maybe not the best ones, I think it was smart from his part to learn more under Belichick, if he indeed gets a HC job, he would do much better now than 2 years ago. These Patriots teams from the past 2 or 3 years, lots of rookies and undrafted rookies making the team, veterans being cut or traded, this has been a total coaching hands on experience, all the coaches on the staff should be thankful for being part of this project.

Yeah, didn't he fly out to visit the Broncos in between playoff games that year?

No, Pats didn't make the playoffs in the 2008 season, and McDaniels was hired to begin 2009. His work with Matt Cassel is part of what made him a hot commodity at that time.

He still has plenty of time to prove us right

EXACTLY ! It is ironic that he said it in a Herald interview the exact same day as LaCanfora's report from so called "insider info"

Driving up the starting point for negotiations early.
