    Trade
New England Patriots trade pick 22 to the Detroit Lions for picks 34 and 66

    Round 2, Pick 34 - Jahvid Best/RB/Cal
    Round 2, Pick 44 - Ricky Sapp/OLB/Clemson
    Round 2, Pick 47 - Damian Williams/WR/USC
    Round 2, Pick 53 - Corey Wootton/DE/Northwestern
    Round 3, Pick 66- Jimmy Graham/TE/Miami
    Round 4- Daniel Te'O-Nesheim/DE-LB/ Washington
    Round 6 - Ed Wang/OT/Virginia Tech
    Round 7 - Freddie Barnes/WR/Bowling Greene

    So,what do you think?
    Did we fill important holes?
    Bad value or good?

Who does Detroit want badly enough to make this move? What need are they trying to fill?

Brandon Graham, i talked to a couple lions fans from various sites and most of them said they would pull the trigger on that trade.

some were reluctant and said they would rather give up next years 3rd(even i thought that was more realistic)

    Huh? 22 -> 34 + 66 is about right; 34 + 2011 3 = 34 + 2010 4, which isn't enough value.

Remember that when the Pats went from 26 to 41 last year, they got TWO 2009 3s.

Just go by the trade value chart for mock trades.
Fans always overvalue their team's draft picks, even if they are getting a good prospect in the trade up.

BTW I believe that Stafford is going to get killed this year unless they get a decent tackle to protect him. Either through the draft or free agency. I know they have to go with Suh in the first round. But after that, they should focus on protecting their #1 overall pick investment.

Not a bad hypothetical trade, very reasonable target for Schwartzie's defense and fan crossover to fill Lion's seats on game day. Good job. I'm not in love with the Best and Graham picks, but they have the potential to work out so no rashes, the others are all good value/fits for me.

I rather sit tight & just take Graham ourselves if he falls to #22. We need people to step up & play day 1. I want nothing to do with Sapp & his 7 career sacks & no run defense. The only way he fits "our system" is he is tall, he is not a very good football player. Sapp = Crable 2.0.

I much rather take Carrington over Wootton.

Again we need players who can play day 1, Jimmy Graham has huge potential but will take at least a few years to develop. I much rather take Pitta who I think can come in & produce his 1st year.

I doubt Freddie Barnes lasts to our 6th or 7th. I think he is the steal of the draft. I've seen highlights, nothing flashy, but great hands and route running, what you need in the NFL. He looks like an ideal #2 option in the NFL.

I'd take him with our 4th,even if it's considered a "reach".

    Like the draft overall though.

i just dont see BB going away from his "prototype" OLB, graham does not fit that
    but thats just me

yea i actually struggled to decide between carrington and wooton:D

the only TE in this draft that has the potential to come in day 1 and make an impact is jermaine gresham who will most likely be a 1st round pick, possibly at 21 to the bengals

Carrington sold me at the senior bowl, he looked like a man amongst boys in the blocking drills. He had 14 1/2 sacks in '09 & went to Ark St. to stay close to his boy ( despite being recruited by big time programs ) Graduated with a degree in clinical phychology. Seems like a guy with head screwed on straight.

I like Wootton too, I just like Carrington more ( more than Odrick even )

I'm right there with ya! I wasted my time a few years ago getting all excited about Lamar Woodley. Not doing it again!

I'm anticipating a trade probably involving #22 but I really would like to stand "Pat" and select at #22, 44, 47 and 53. I just don't think it will happen. There will be many teams coveting that #22 pick and we all know if that certain player BB wants there is gone he will make a trade in a nanosecond.......

All and all I like our positioning in the first two rounds.......

I think Carrington is off the BB draft board because of the short arms, but I will say this, Carrington gave #1 Alabama fits last season. He was a beast and I think if you say "Carrongton" to Heisman trophy winner Ingram, he will start to twitch in fear.

Well, drills aren't everything, but all of his numbers in agility drills are what I would classify as unacceptably low. Yes he's got great hands. Yes, his production is unimpeachable. But the Patriots aren't going to be playing Ohio, Miami of Ohio, and Dayton next year. He doesn't appear to be a special teams contributor either. Free agent at best, for me.

The Gaffney role needs to be filled; who does that filling I'm sure we'll debate for a while (give me Marcus Easley or Blair White, personally).
