6. Draft position is not the absolute indicator of NFL ability.
Most low round picks and UDFAs who flash come back to earth pretty quickly, but there are exceptions, there have been undrafted players and low-round players who have excelled in the NFL over the years. Saying a guy can't be any good because he wasn't drafted ignores the facts of life in the NFL. It is about the same as saying a guy has to be an all-Pro if he was drafted very high.
Drafting simply is not an exact science, and sometimes players who do well in NCAA ball never do well in the pros, and vice versa.
Likely Cobbs will never amount to much, but I'm not willing to write him off just yet. I think he has good NFL potential, and think he has a chance to do well in the NFL. I think last year he would have made the 53, and this year he will be on another teams' 53. Whether he is still in football next year is another story.
